Can you special order anything on an LC?

I've wanted an LC ever since I drove a series 80 and a Batalla Larga "Troopy" (HZJ75RV) all over Central America with the Peace Corps in the 1990s. I also drove troopers, explorers, blazers, and monteros over the same roads. Everything else is a weak imitation of a L.C. (except the LX of course).

Even though the 2018s aren't out yet, they are up on the Toyota website. I called my local dealer and they don't know when they will be available. The salesman said they have gotten some information about the 18s and there won't be anything new or different.

By accident I ended up on the Toyota Australia website where they've got more than 2 interior colors available. The one I'd like a whole lot more than Terra or Black is "Shell Beige." I know you can get something like it in an LX, but I hate the grill.

The Toyota US website says that if you want something that doesn't appear as an option on the website to call your dealer and have them check with the manufacturer.

So, I asked the local salesman if I could special order an 2018 with the Shell Beige interior. I figure that to get that done I'd have to order it before they are done producing the 2018s. The salesman said that you can't special order anything, which sort of contradicts what is on the website. I asked if he would actually call the mothership to check, and he hemmed and hawed long enough to lose any chance of me buying through him.

Does anyone know if you can special order anything from the factory, like non-standard interior or exterior colors?

If you know of a dealership that has had any success special ordering features on a land cruiser, please let me know.

That interior color would be nice!

I'm in the South East Toyota area. I'm not sure if the distributor can influence options, but when I look at the Toyota website all I see for options is (a) the rear seat monitors, and (b) for the front the multi-terrain monitor. Exterior Interior colors remain the same as the two that are on the 2017 models.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a special charge for a special order like that, but if it only adds a small percentage to the total cost it might be worth it to me.

It's not like I'm asking them to put in a 4.5 twin turbo diesel that isn't legal in this market...

That's what I saw in NM. It's nice to not have to get the rear seat DVD, but they don't seem to have lowered the price to adjust for the $2,000 to get DVD in an '18.

It's like keeping the price of a box of cereal the same but putting in less product. Price creep.

There a few accessories you can order! Like carpet floor mats, since it doesn't come with any! (Sore point with me.) And wheel locks, and remote start, etc. Other than accessories, there were no options offered/allowed in '17. But if "shell beige" came with ANYTHING other than the flat black dash of the other 2 colors, I'd fight for it.

I think the future of all cars is the matte black dash for glare reasons. I haven't seen anything but that in any new production car I've been in for a while.

I'm the General Sales Manager at a Toyota dealer and I personally own a 2015 200 that I bought new. I have just over 21 years experience with Toyota and their vehicle allocation system.

There is only one factory option for the 2018. Right from the Toyota Vehicle Order...
"August is the first order month for 2018MY. All grades/colors carry over from 2017MY. Dual headrest Rear Seat Entertainment (EY) is no longer standard. CAT (Central Atlantic Toyota) will not order Land Cruiser with this option."

Everything is staying the same as 2017 except that if someone actually wanted the entertainment system we would have to put a request in for it.

Toyota does not allow any deviation from their factory build. There is no such thing as a special order. There is the possibility that if another region were building something differently, dealers could trade on paper before the physical build and have them shipped to the appropriate dealership. On a vehicle with this limited production it would be impossible to find anything different.

Accessories are a totally different story though.

It would be amazing to have the build variation that Australia gets!

Thanks for letting me know!

I'm happy to be able to opt out of the low-res non-blu ray DVD system.

Now that I have an idea of how the US ordering system sort of works, maybe a group of folks can petition the Toyota US heriarchy to order 2019s with certain features available in the foreign matket we'd all love to see on the new and (eventually) used US market.

"Shell Beige" might not make it to the top of that list, but there are some other cool things you can get in Australia/Europe/Middle East that could be done in the US without any special testing or certification, like the factory winch and bumper cover.

Have you done any nation wide searches on auto trader or cars.com?

You can also alter your zip code in the Toyota website to check on different features availble in different regions.

I have seen some features and options vary by regions within inside the US, generally it is just what are called port installed options, but I could see Toyota offering lighter interior choices in really hot climate regions of the US.

I.e., Toyota LC fender flairs, were only applied via the gulf states regional port. Still that way today as far as fender flairs on tundra's go.

In my case Toyota still builds the 200s in Super white for other foreign regions, so I too looked into trying to special order a 200 for me it was an exterior color that was offered overseas, and I recieved basically the same answers, nothing is really ever ordered to a customers spec direct from a dealer direct to toyota. Everything is sourced via the regional ports and either optioned at the port or at the dealer to meet the consumers request.

When you say "another region" does PR and Hawaii count? In other words; is there any way to get a new, non-navigation, 200 in the US.

That's a good thought, I'll try searching different US regions, and maybe put a bug in the ear of the fleet manager or g.m. to see about getting shell beige and super white in the future, since it's probably too late for 2018.

I've got to buy new for tax reasons, otherwise I'd be scouring auto trader, car guru, etc...

Great question! I'll check those Toyota website zip codes and talk to my local dealer about getting one moved here from there if has got what I want. I imagine the transfer fee would be steeper than usual since it would have to be containered, but it would be worth it!

I'd, personally, pay a premium for one. Assuming I was in the market for a new 200. I know there are a handful of '03+ 100-series from PR and Hawaii in the US without nav, which is why I figured I'd ask.

Not seeing any LC's in inventory at the HI and PR dealerships so far, but that is an avenue I'll keep checking. May look at Guam and the Phillipines as well.

Puerto Rico only has Terra interiors, but exterior they have beige in addition to what we have. Accessories are the same but the price is substantially higher at USD $99k.

I would think anything involved with the bumpers would certainly be something subject to "special testing and certification" if coming from the manufacturer.

You could be right.

There is a thread here from the middle east with a factory or port installed OEM winch in the existing 2012 bumper and a winch cover. However maybe the new bumper doesn't have an available oem winch elsewhere.

Thought I'd take a look around the Toyota corporate site to see if any other countries showed a front seat like in the US, but without the screen attached to the back. Idea being a head start to think about a screen delete that looked OEM.

Didn't find what I was looking for, but found two other items:

1. The USA site now is showing the rear screens as standard even though they were listed as optional just a few days ago. Wondering if this means they changed their mind or if the SE Toyota distributer is going to order all deliveries with the screens pre-installed.

2. The Saudi site shows a roof mounted DVD screen and the front seats with screens attached on the back. Because camera angles can do weird things I'm wondering if the roof fold-down screen is for a 3rd row?
