I have a 2000 river rock LC. I don't like the size of the stock 16" tire and wheel. They seem to small for the vehicle proportionally. I would like to go to a 17 in wheel and a bigger tire. I don't do allot of off roading, but I do pull a boat just about every weekend. I like the style of the 16" stock wheels and want something sort of similar, but also want a tire that has a little wider tread and fills the wheel well beter. Any suggestions?

Go to a 285/75/16 tire, it's wider, taller (33 in) and will fill your wheel well better, there are plenty of choices brand and type wise in that size. You will be able to keep the stock look on your wheels and to make things even worse, you will save some money not buying new wheels!!!
I'm running the BFG AT/KO's and they look good and work good on pavement and ocassional off roading, being a LT tire, they are also more reinforced for load and road/rocks damage.

I went to a 195/75/R16 at it fits well.

I agree, but stay with a "D" load range don't get an "E" load range (had them on a 1 ton). The "E" range is too heavy and rough riding. The only problem I see with the BFG AT/KO's is that if you don't like them you are stuck, because it will take you 80K miles to wear them out :) I had Michelin LTX/MS on a LC and the BFG AT/KO's and no comparison the BFG's are good in the snow/off road/hiway (a little noisy) but just great tires.

Thanks for your suggestions! I have heard many good things on this forum about the BFG's, and they sound like the perfect solution for my situation. Thanks!

I just did about 1000 miles on Nitto TerraGrapler AT's. 325/65/18 (about a 35" x13") tire. They are excellent on the road. Not noisy at all and did pretty good at snow, rocks and the mud we threw at them. Pretty impressed. I am sure they make a smaller tire as well. I would run them before I run a BFG AT.

I'd stay closer to stock size -- if you're towing a boat a lot. The extra near inch from the 285/75 will suck some power from you. There are tons of choices if you go to a 265/75. It's a little taller than stock -- and a very little thiner.

Just checked the prices on the Nitto TerraGrappler, 295/75 R 16. $638 for 4 installed with lifetime rotation and roadside assistance. The price was quoted from Discount Tire. I will be using this tire next.

Discount tire has them for 137.00 a piece with FREE shipping. Figure 15.00 a piece to mount and balance. Saves you 30.00. Unless of course you actually have someone else rotate your tires, this would not be good deal for you.
