Question for the forum: Can I just change the oil filter without draining the pan? I had to put on a cheap wix filter recently (don't ask) , and only have about 1500 miles on the mobil 1, so I want to change out the filter, without draining the oil. Anybody know how much oil I will lose when I do this?
Thanks
Louis

Yes you can. I would say 1 quart. Maybe buy two to be safe. When I use to drive a ton of miles, I would change the filter every 5,000 and synthetic oil and filter every 10,000. Seemed like I only lost a quart or less.

Thanks TXLX;
I will take care of this today.

I don't know if I'd be overly concerned with a Wix filter, unless you put on the bottom-of-the-barrel Wix

Agreed. If it's a Wix Gold filter, then it is a good filter. I've been using them for years on my 80 series and my 100 series with Mobil 1 oil.

Every day I see heavy equipment fleets that run Wix filters in everything, and those motors are far more expensive than ours !

Just change the oil and filter again in 5k miles. You'll be fine.
