Can Daytime Running Lights Be Turned Off

There was no 2012 Model Year for the LC here in the U.S. 2011 production ended, 2013 production started.

What's your point o_O

Just that Toyota/Lexus by ignoring 2012 for the LX570, made the late build 2011 (would of been 2012) a great used vehicle deal. My LX570 sold used with 29k miles for well under $15k less then a 2013 with close to the same miles. Plus a early build 2011 with double the miles as mine sells for only a couple of thousand less then mine. Plus a late build 2011 still has almost the same amount of warranty left as a early build 2013. This should be pointed out to buyers looking for the sweet spot in buying a used LX/LC. Sorry for the high Jack but that is what my point was in my head ;). Did not come out in my post.

What's the big deal with daylight running lights?

If I want my lights on, I will turn them on. And they shouldn't be on unless I turn them on. They waste energy. They prematurely discolor and crack the lenses they are housed in due to the constant heat that they put out. They have only been shown to provide a marginal safety advantage in parts of the world where they have long periods of darkness. They idea first came about in Scandinavian countries due to that reason. Canada then followed suit for the same reason. GM then decided to put it on all their NA cars so that they wouldn't have to build different cars for Canada and the US. The Continental US doesn't have the problem of long periods of darkness like those areas far north. The only logical solution is to provide the user a way to disable the DRLs. Preferably, one that the user can do himself. And if the only way to disable them is at the dealer, that dealer better damn sure not give me any slack about it.

Now does anybody know if there is a wire I can snip on my 08 like I did in my 05 to disable the DRLs?

Problem solved without cutting. I looked up the wiring diagram on TIS, found a Headlight Resistor Relay, correction: its called a Daytime Running Light Resistor, with a white wire going in and a white/black wire going out, located position of relay in engine compartment. On an 08, its located on the Right Hand side just behind the headlight. (picture taken when standing in front of RH headlight.) Unplug it. No more DRLs. Low beams, high beams and fog lights still function as normal. And according to that sticker on the resistor, this has an added benefit of lowering your underhood temps. Its a win-win! And if you go the extra-mile of unbolting and removing that resistor, you increase your horsepower-to-weight ratio!

I guess you guys with the newer 13+ LCs can disable them through the Nav, but Im guessing this might apply to all 08-11s.

There was a thread a few months back where were all trying to figure out what the hell that little thing did.

Mystery solved!

I want to know how come every GM vehicle I see o the road that is over 1 year old always has 1 DRL out? Never have seen one out on a Toyota LC or LX?

Yes I was part of that because I saw people were installing small air compressors in that spot. Time to re-check things out and search for that thread.

I saw it noted on page 34 of the 'What have you done with your 200 this week" thread
