can a newb remove a 2f and trans by himself and install a 3b and h55?

if you have all the necessary attaching goodies.... a complete donor vehicle is the best way.....

Is a 3b a 24-volt system? This means new electrical everything...

the 3b is 12v i will ask the donor seller if he can cut out the engine mounts from the frame...

welding would definitely require assistance..

but im thinking about attempting to install the 3b/tc/h55 by myself for the first time.

i have access to a friends engine picker...:hillbilly::wrench:

While one person can do it....its far safer to have two or three people involved wihen removing or installing the engine, due to the weight and safety issues involved. At least get a friend to help... If you get stuck by yoursel it can be trouble. Some of that is going to take two people anyway.

Young Pete,

I think you are considering a worthy and worthwhile project. It sounds like you want to do the project and you have the time.
Doing something you have never done before is challenging and very rewarding when you figure it out and get it done.
I'm confidant it's a good idea and encourage you to give it a go. Just remember to take a lot of photos for us!

Rick

I'm just barely more experienced than you--pulled my engine this weekend--but x2 on having people to help you when you pull it out. EVERYTHING you remove is way heavier than it looks, and you'll want people to help stabilize the engine while you pull it out.

I would recruit at least one buddy for the removal of the 2f/h42/tcase and the install of the 3B. I have never done the 3B, but I have done the 3FE/A440F/Tcase and the 2F/H55/tcase install and removal and a friend's help is a good thing. I am located in the south bay, and could help with the removal/install. I would love to see a 3B transplant.

I did it all myself. It was a first engine swap for me.

I blundered my way through it alone, but it would have been much easier with a helper. That's some heavy metal to be hefting around by oneself.
