Picked up a cap off a 90 that was painted green.
Great for Christmas with my red, I'd appreciate others opinions.

-Matching red?
-Black?
-Cygnus white (color of my fj40 roof, which I already have about a pint of paint so would only have to buy a pt. instead of qt.)?
Different color?

I always look at non color matched caps like you couldn’t afford to do it right. If you are painting it, paint it right!

I have always thought a matching color looked best as well. Post up a pic of the red and green combo and let's see how it looks. Here's my matching top on my 81

Here is an early morning pic of the green red (bad lighting).

Normally I'd completely agree to color match, but a lot of 80s Toy pickups had white caps, and I think they look pretty good.

My truck was painted 5 years ago using the original color code 3f3 red but I have had trouble getting in contact with the body shop to see what manufacturer paint they used. If I go red, I want a pretty exact match, which will be hard with 5 year old paint, especially as there are differences between batches and manufacturers, and red fades. This is what made me think that the cygnus white may be a good option.

What color are your wheels? I think the Cygnus White would look great on a red truck - unless the wheels are already a white other than Cygnus... then go with that white.

Wheels are silver. (Pic with old cracked shell I got rid of). I may put a set of fj40 cygnus white wheels on it if I can track some down.

I think the white wheels and white cap would look great on that truck. That's a good Toyota color combination as you mentioned.

I would go with a white top personally. Always loved the contrast and red is hard to color match.

Yeah, I think white is the way I am leaning. I just painted new half doors and a tailgate for my FJ40 a couple weeks ago, and while it turned out decent, the color is just slightly off (matches better in the sun). I know more skilled painters can blend, but I'm just happy if I can avoid a lot of orange peel! I may talk to a couple shops to see if they think they can make it match before I decide what to do, and then try to find some time to get it painted.

Decided on the white. Think it turned out pretty good. Once I get some cygnus white fj40 wheels on it, it should look great.

Looks great!

Wheels are key...white 40 Series wagons or steelies with caps will finish that truck nicely.

Waiting on the UPS man for a set of 40 series wagon wheels I just purchased. They are currently powder coated grey. I should have enough paint left over from painting the camper shell to do the wheels, or I may powder coat them like I did with the wheels on my FJ40. The beige color Les Schwab offers is a very close match to the Cygnus white, and at $30 a wheel it is a bargain for powder coating. Will send updates when I get around to having them powdered/painted and installed.
