What all does it involve? Something the we... the club... could assist with some weekend?

A spring over is way beyond my ability to do, but everybody I talked to said its the way to go,I was going to do a lift from ccot when I could swing it,but I figured I would call to see what it would cost to do the spring over and was just a bit suprised.

Like chad said gnob or jesse perhaps in the club could help some. Ill let them chime in with their interest. I don't know the first thing, but can take stuff apart lol.

as it turns out.
the SOA is a huge can of worms.

we have been working on a tight budget on the 40 project.
i cant really imagine what a shop would charge. i would have to sit down and do math and stuff, thats lame.

but i mean so far we have changed

spring mounts
springs
shocks
steering
knuckles
brakes
drive shafts
and tons of labor

i cant see on a 40 why you would not do PS at the same time if it hasnt already been done.
plus lots of other things like
shackle flip
cut and turn
nickel, dime
nickel, dime

and as far as "the thing to do"

what do you plan to do, exactly.

are you planning on stockish or full on crawler. the SOA is 6" right out of the blocks, so keep that in mind as well.

Search...
I hate to say it but there are a lot of options for SUA and SOA on a 40 series. A 2 1/2 inch lift will often be 3+ inches over what you have now as your old springs are flat. Old Man Emu used to make excellent quality stuff but now they are DAKAR and not as good AFAIK but might be just fine. Rancho rides hard. I have no idea on the others but Manafre and Specter Off Road both sell SUA lifts. A shackle reversal and hanger extensions will yield a fair amount of lift as well.
Old flat stock springs may work fine on a SOA but if they don't do you buy new stock height or more old used ones?
Do some research on lifts in the 40 section and you will get a lot of info, some good, some bad.. Good luck.

I guess I was just a bit taken back at the price,Im sure he is good at it or he wouldn' t be in business, and I dont begrudge anybody making an honest living, But somewhere along the line,I got some bad info that a SOA would be less expensive than a kit, thanks for all the input,I still have some time to twirl it around my in my brain.

Who did you call and what was the quote? Unless you are going for a 37" tire it's not really worth it. It turns out to be a pretty big lift once it's done and I would say it's excessive if you are just wanting 35's.
