Hi all what needs to be added/corrected to bring a 98' 100 series to meet California smog laws? Factory sticker on the underside of hood states that its not California compliant.
Thanks, Cliff

Should be North America compliant. Your only hitch will be if it has non-compliant headers (Doug Thorley) instead of OEM exhaust manifolds. BTW: The 2UZ-FE is an LEV motor! Mine checked out super clean with then 218k miles.

We have a few "no pass, no pay" stations up here...start there.

Thats what my local toyota dealership service rep said "all 50 states" quandry over the hood sticker though

Hmmm...you might have a problem if the sticker does not, as you are concerned, list California specifically. Either check the VIN with DMV or try a no pass/no pay station...

You can smog a 'Fed' spec car in California. The only rules that apply are to new cars purchased less than 1 year or 6 months prior to registration with less than 1k or 5k miles, can't remember the exact details.

But you should be able to smog your LC if it's a Fed spec car. Has the law changed? I've registered a lot of Fed spec cars in California before.

Carfax has it originally sold in Utah 1998, where I bought it.

In the link I posted doesn't it say it's OK if you move to CA and you had the vehicle registered in another state prior to moving to CA?

If that's the case you should be golden.

"
Does This Apply to Someone Moving to California?
If you are moving to California from another state, you may register a new 49-state vehicle if it was first registered by you in your home state, or for military personnel, in the last state of your military service. When applying for vehicle registration in California, you must provide evidence that the vehicle was registered."

Ugh!! first time I wished I wasn't a 3rd generation native (except recent election years!!) I'll check with AAA tomorrow

All's welll that ends well, first stop AAA couldnt register there because it was bought from a dealer out of state AAA person said to go to a smog only station to get passed then to DMV for inspection and process paper work for registration and title change and aquire plates. Passed smog no sweat passed inspection got plates and I am good to go!! Thanks all

Nice! I'm surprised a little after reading the California dmv site.

Yup "got to the end of the internet" researching this last night :bang:, best advice was to start at AAA amazing it only took about 1 1/2hrs. from AAA-smog check-all the DMV stuff(without an appointment:grinpimp:!!) thought I was in an alternate universe.
