Being a high desert resident for 28 years, I get to see the garbage first hand. I've even caught asshats in the act of dumping. For the most part, the dumpers are speed freak scum that think the middle of the desert is more convenient than the dump. They'll actually load up their truck overflowing with mounds of trash, old car parts, empty ephedrine bottles, and diapers and just find a nice bush to leave it by.
For anyone who has not participated in an organized cleanup run, it is actually a lot of fun. A good format to follow is rewarding participants with raffle tickets for each bag of trash or item hauled in. This kind of turns it into a race of sorts since the raffle prizes are unknown at the time.
Everytime I go out wheeling I come back with more trash than I brought and will be in Calico to do the same. It's nice the rollaways were donated, the last Stoddard cleanup had to pay for the dumpsters.
The raffle has now been offically taken over by Ron Q. (FJ Cruiser Lead Team Driver). I doubt he'll let anyone down with his contacts and effort. Props to him!
