You can choke you friend and you can choke your chicken.....
But you can't choke your friends chicken. That just crosses the line of good manners.

good manners? that's the line you think it crosses?

Entry fee has been paid so I guess we should do a roll call on who is gonna play and whatcha bringing.

I am in and will bring my Webers, Ez-Up, kitchen, coolers, etc....

B-Dog you still in it to win it?

I have heard a rumor that Saw's has entered a team and if that's the case I might resend my running away from cooking a shoulder. I mean it's Saw's beating them would be awesome.

I'm in again this year. If you want to lighten your load in the Barbie JEEP, I was planning on bring my WSM, cooler of ice/supplies and and a big ALABAMA chair. Keith and I were talking about cooking for the turn in on Wednesday night, but you are welcome to take lead on this shindig since we are just throwing darts in the dark when it comes to comp-que.

Nope if it has already been decided then I shall follow the lead. I gave up my chair because I suck at scoring good despite the public opinion. You guys go kick Saw's ass. Bring the Guru cause we'll have power.

I'm still bringing my junk because you can never have to much cook space that and I still have to cook the chicken.

Nothing was "decided". We just kicked it around. How bout we just all work on it as a team and defer all competition questions to the "Whisperer". We can then all bask in the glory of triumph or wallow in the misery of defeat as a commiserating group of beer lovers.

I'd rather point and mock. :D:D

I just figured you would want some of the glory when we beat "Sorry Ass Wilson's" barbecue in front of God and everyone!

I can bring the usual stuff from last year - 4'x2' table, small-ish EZ-Up if needed (8'x8' I believe), dumbbells to anchor tents from blowing away. Anyone with some spare parts or offroading accessories to help jazz up our tent and help us stand out as a car club? An old mounted tire or two perhaps? Shackles and tow straps helped a little last year, but we could do better this time around with some forethought.

Last year they handed out banners with names. Ours just said "DLC," which was unclear to say the least. Maybe we can get something a little more official this time around. Probably too late to have an official club banner made, but I know that was something we discussed as a possible use of club dues when/if we ever collect them.

Yes I need to get with the dues. I also agree as to the banner.

I can make BBQ slaw again.

I also suggested hushpuppies which if anyone wants to do that I can bring the ingredients but don't have a burner or anything to boil the grease.

That slaw was a hit last year. If you do it again you need to go big. One bowl just aint gonna cut it.
(really just want to take the leftovers home. Stephanie loved it.)

I think we stumbled on presentation last year, so that's probably one place we can improve our scoring appreciably.

As for the quality of the product, I'm willing to bet it's because the judges are laypeople, not "legit" bbq judges. It's like the chili competitions that I've done. There's damn fine chili that gets ranked low, and overly sweet and tomatoey stuff that gets accolades. Next competition, it's reversed. Just depends on who's judging.

I think the "run what you brung" strategy probably makes the most sense, sticking with something that one of us has cooked before in the past, and we think has turned out well. However, if we're going to change anything up or do something new, we ought to get together one weekend and try it out to see what works well together.

As for manning the smoker, after really thinking about it, I'd honestly rather be barking to get people's choice donations. If Brian and Matt want to cook, I think that'd work out well. I'll be happy to make sauce again if folks thought that was good. I know I need to make about double, maybe triple, what I made last year.

As for booth accoutrement. I've got a busted ass 37" MT-R and a set of third row 80 seats. :flipoff2:

From talking to Eric a couple weeks ago, it sounds like it's going to be more crowded this year with the number of teams, so we may not have much room for decorations. I like the banner idea a lot.

I agree on the presentation aspect of it and hopefully we'll only have to prep one box this year instead of five.

I still have last years banner.

Yeah, and I have your REG bag. LOL

Got the conformation e-mail yesterday for the event. Their are 12 teams this year so should be a good time.

Set up will be Friday and I will probably get there as early as they'll let me after I do my running around getting the chicken and other stuff.

Team name has changes from DLC BBQ to Dixieland Cruisers BBQ.

So who all is going to show up and when? I plan on being there for some portion of Friday night, and then for the main event however early is necessary before it starts at noon. Maybe 11am? Do we need to chip in some cashmoney, Matt?

I'll be there sometime Friday after I get off work and do my running around getting the chicken and stuff. I'm planning on camping like last year. I'm also planning on cooking some chicken and sausages Friday night. For Saturday I'd get there as early as you see fit the gates officially open at 12.

I'm bringing an EZ-Up, two coolers (one for the 40 lbs of chicken and then a hot cooler), my WSM, my kettle, two tables, three bags of charcoal, and all the etc... stuff I use.

I'm assuming (hopefully correctly) that B-Dog is bringing his WSM and Guru. B-Dog it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for you to also pick up some charcoal. Better to have to much than to run out.

Things we'll need are a cooler for water and drinks another tent and I'm sure a bunch of other things that I'm forgetting.
