How can one "judge" give a 6 and another "judge" on the same panel give a 12?

If they are "qualified" to be a "judge" one would think the range would not be anywhere near that great.
 
I'm thinking it's more random people that they asked to judge and not qualified judges. Which I am okay with because that's the nature of backyard competitions but yeah I agree.


My frustration over the chicken scores aside I am proud of the Dixieland butt. Brian smoked it, we combined his rub and my rub for the rub, and then finished it with Kieth's sauce so it was truly a team butt.
 
Yeah, man, the team pork was f'ing fantastic, as was the chicken. I'm a little surprised someone said something about the heat in the sauce. It was super subtle, I thought. Oh well... Matt, I agree, we need to do a true BBQ chicken with your chicken and that sauce. I think it'd be pretty damn amazing.

Oh, and I nominate Clank to be a judge next year. Shhhh...
 
I stopped by and talked to Jennifer Galbreath at her office on Wednesday and put the idea in her head that we would like to see a real barbecue association get involved with the event next year, or at least use a credible barbecue scoring criteria. She felt like this would give more legitimacy and bring a stronger field of teams. Matt, you might want to contact her on FB and give suggestions.
 
Oddly I already have.

I talked to her before the comp and gave her the names of the people that helped with Stokin'.


I agree that getting it on a more even keel will be a lot better.

They've hated me for years.
 
Finally got the e-mail with our place. We placed seventh overall. Also got the actual score cards and well I'll say they are a little baffling to me.

Yeah that was a miss type apparently. Before I could question she sent me another one with same scores minus the cupcake. Either someone was doing Myron Mixon's "cupcake" chicken or someone was serving cupcakes.
