I'm going to look at purchasing a 97 LC that was originally purchased in CA. Any reason not to consider a California truck? Was there emissions stuff added that would make the vehicle less desirable in your opinion?

Greetings JH...

I am reasonably certain that all later model 80s had the same emissions equipment - i.e., there were no 49-state trucks + a CA version.

The biggest issue with the emissions system - for all members of this forum in all states - has been failures of EGR components from carbon buildup. When you search the FAQS and old posts for "EGR" you will have ample reading for hours. Good stuff to know.

Mine is a Calif born-n-bred '97, and I too had the EGR issues. It's something you can expect, especially with higher milage trucks.

Good luck ! Ron -

if the truck is in CA it means it has had regular emissions testing which makes it less likely that something is wrong with the system. Speaking from esxperience, you are more likely to have a problem with a truck from a state with no testing since it likely means there has been no maintenance to the system.

All 94-up 80 series Cruisers are 50 states emissions.
