Hey Everyone - Even as a new LX owner, I know there are many threads about weird noises in these trucks but was hoping someone could help me out with this one.

There is a loud buzzing noise that seems to come from the engine compartment thru the lower center dash and into the middle console. This buzzing noise happens when the truck is not moving but in D. So, let's say I'm stopped at a red light, foot on the brake and the truck in D. 3 to 5 seconds later - buzzzzzz and let me tell you I'm not saying its loud but definitely noticeable. Now, if I put the the truck in N at the light with my foot still on the brake, the buzzing goes away. If I'm in D, light turns green and press the gas, buzzing goes away.

Truck is an 03 w/ 94k.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks to all who answer.

Take your engine cover off and see if the noise stops. It's very very common for this cover to harmonize with the motor at low idle. Rubber shims under the 4x mounting points and refreshing the anti rattle foam blocks on the bottom of the cover works too.

Agree with checking the engine cover. I had to glue some foam in place right below the oil fill cutout on the lower edge. I actually used the shift into neutral trick at stop lights cause mine was so loud. Adding foam silenced it for good.

With that being said, I never would have described the sound as coming from the lower center dash. Windows down and I could tell it was coming from the top front of the truck. Easy way to test this is have someone put truck in drive while you poke around the engine bay. If it's making the noise consistently should be easy to track down.

I have the same/similar noise and how it comes and goes. I found I have a broken bolt at my skid plate and the one crossmember. Good luck on your search.

Thanks to all you who answered. Turns out it was the engine cover. For now I've left it off. I'll have to get the rubber shims and new foam.

Now that we've solved that one. There's also a random buzzing sound/vibration that always seems to come from the passenger side B pillar/rear door. Never the driver's side - always the passenger side and it sounds like a buzz/rattle and it happens at different times. I could be going 55 mph and it happens then goes away. It can also happen as I'm braking/slowing down. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Check all around to see if the outer trim on the door is loose - I had that on my passenger front door.

I would call it a buzzing noise, but a vibration, if that it's: You'll may notice you're idle a little low while in drive with foot on brake. If so this is most likely the "D" vibration, search and you'll find many threads on this issue. My roof rack cross member was making the vibration sound, which I choose to leave on (cross member). The sound is my indicator I need a tune-up and probably been getting bad gas. So I do the following, which works every time for me:

Rough idle & D vibration reduction tree

Undoubtedly there’s not one solution for all, but this will solve most without removing vibrations parts.
First:
  1. Run a 44K through gas tank.
  2. De-carbonizes intake system with Sea Foam fogger.
  3. Hard driving above 3,000 rpm to aid injector cleaning & De-carbonizing.
Second:
  1. Oil & filter changed M1 EP 5W-30.
  2. Make sure air filter in good work order.
  3. Disconnected battery for 30 minutes to reset ECU.
  4. Spray cleaned MAF meter.
  5. Clean Throttle body throat & valve.
  6. Check vacuum lines, including PCV.
  7. Reconnect battery post, and make sure too Cleaned and Greased battery post's.
  8. Another fresh tank of 91oct gas.
For over 100K miles on clock, consider replacing fuel filter.
