Strange thing tonight. I have a year and a half old Cruiser that I parked in the garage about 4 hours ago and, while going to get wood for the fire, I hear a buzzing around the spare tire. It's constant. Nothing on the dash. I'm the original owner and it's my first Cruiser so hoping something basic.

Last week I brought home a 2018 LC.. Drove it from Virginia to Alabama, around 750 miles. Parked it in the garage and the next morning I experienced the same thing. Thought it might be the fuel pump, but was more of the buzz as you describe.

No lights on dash so I opened the door and stated the truck and shut it off.. Buzz gone.

It hasn't done it again, so I wondered if it was possibly some Evap pump /AC pump.. I'm guessing if it was the fuel pump and it was running for several hours, I probably would have had a dead battery.. Truck stared without hesitation.

Searched here and online, and didn't see anything... Interesting you experienced the same...

I’ve heard this when sleeping in my 13 cruiser. Don’t remember how long after shutdown. Assumed it was some evap function

My 2014 Tundra does something like that. It’s a purge cycle or something. It turns on at odd intervals, runs for a time, then shuts off. I’ve never heard it from my 2008 Land Cruiser, though.

Another great thread, I love this forum!
I noticed something identical in my wife's 2015 4R LTD. Same thing - humming sound in the garage, very low volume, almost like an aquarium pump or something like that, emanating from the back, like from above the spare tire... Turning the engine on and off eliminates the sound. I was concerned and like the others couldn't find much relevant info to go on... In my case, I decided to replace the remote battery which was dying in her remote, thinking maybe this is some kind of "incomplete shutoff of the systems"... Have not noticed the symptom since but I'm thinking it must be a coincidence!
Anyway - thanks for posting on this.

Completely normal. Most (all?) vehicles do this now. Emission system controls.

So this makes me wonder what is actually going on.

Pump building slight pressure in the fuel tank to hold back vapor production? If so there would be a pressure release if you remove the fuel cap right?

Reviving this thread. Just noticed the same thing today on my 21. Vehicle had been off for about 7 hours and I happened to walk in the garage and heard a faint humming noise by the rear passenger side tire. I wondered if the noise would be louder if I opened the fuel cap and listened. When I opened the cap, a light burst of pressure was released and the pump/humming noise immediately stopped. I'm assuming it's all emission related like everyone else mentioned. I just hope it doesn't take a toll on the battery over time.
