Lets say you had access to many BJ70's. Which one would you buy to repair, dress up, to drive to the States to sell? Would it be a 3b powered 70, or a newer 1pz powered 70? Just trying to get my ducks in a row.

Quality will sell regardless of the engine however the 70 Series guys on 'MUD are very savvy and will readily recognize the "lack of quality" and poorly executed repairs.
Good luck ......

Are you saying my work sux?
I'm fairly sure I didn't say that........
Having not seen any of "your work", I wouldn't express an opinion. What I was trying to say, perhaps unsuccessfully, was that the guys on this site will appreciate a quality vehicle as well as quality repairs but are quick to notice when that is not the case. Other importers have learned this lesson the hard way.

Good condition, rust free. Newer would be limited to 1990 and earlier. 1HZ would be a good choice. If you're thinking of dressing up a pig, don't bother.

I am not an importer. I think it would be fun to drive from Costa Rica to Texas and maybe make a little money. I would not buy a POS and paint it. The main question is power.

Quite the conclusion to jump to.....

In any event the more complete and rust-free example the better. You make the bonus round with a six cylinder power plant or a turbo.

If you want to drive it to Texas get a BJ75 or HZJ75 Troopy, the market only has a few of those and the 3B will be your most economical travel companion.

Just my 2 centavos ;-)

Never see a troopy or a 75 here.

I have seen several of them in CR near the border with PTY.All those small coffee towns in the mountains there have a big variety of Cruisers available, also the tour companys around the volcano's seem to love them. They are not cheap and heavily used but so are the BJ70's leaving it on par conditions with the Canadian ones and they are selling hard and cheap here.

Welcome to the 7X community. If you buy a 7X, drive it to Texas and sell it, you will be an importer - take the comments as supportive/informative. If you read some of the other threads about importing from Central / South America, Europe, etc. there is some great information about what not to do.

Many of the older gents on the 7X forum can be kind of grumpy - we mumble and are easily confused.
