Yikes - my wife popped the glass portion of her 89 FJ62's mirror out of the clamp that holds it into the mechanical positioner . I tried to press it in and broke it. Toyota parts tells me you can't just buy the glass but must replace the whole thing. At $340 bucks - even with my TLCA discount - that's insane. Anybody ever have luck in just doing the glass.....? A glass shop could certainly cut me a mirror of that shape.

Welcome! You can find aftermarket mirrors...not as good quality obviously, but cheaper. An option if you can't get the glass replaced.

A hailstorm broke the glass in my mirror over 11 years ago. It was only $275 for a mirror assembly back then, but I had a glass shop replace it for $10 + tax. It was the driver's side, so nothing special and it's still the same piece. Not factory perfect, but good enough.

Call your local auto glass shop & ask for a Burco replacement glass. We sell 'em for $31.17 installed, most vehicles.

Ordinary household mirror is no longer legal to install in automobiles: the OEM product has a glare-reduction property not present in ordinary mirror.

outcome of the mirror-fix

My local auto glass guy came to my house, and put in a new (Burco) mirror for $35 bucks. I was so pleased by the response and value, he got a good tip!
