Are there any year model 100s that were built with the modified ignition arm?

I also would enjoy the Mud wisdom on this subject because i just purchased a 2000 lx 470.

It's seems very prevalent on '98-'99. I'd search the forum and see which model years have reported an issue. My 98 broke around 100k

Seems more prevelant on earlier years, but is it just because they have had more use?
Does anyone know when of if there was a change in the part number to reflect the modified part?

Ok it appears that Toyota has an updated cam rod for the LX and Land cruiser. has anyone performed the change before failure of the defective rod as a PM?does Toyota offer just the Rod?

I changed it out as PM after helping a buddy replace his broken one. You cannot buy just the cam. You have to buy the whole assembly. There are some detailed threads here on Mud that can get you through it if you choose to go for it.

Did they ever build the trucks with the modified or corrected part from the factory?

I don't have any factual evidence other than that I have not seen or heard of it on a 2003+, so it may have been updated around that time. Are you trying to figure out if your's is going to break? Might be better safe than sorry if you do a a lot of trips and have over 100k and it hasn't been done.

As I recall from the other thread on this topic, the part number changed for the 2003-2007 models but some of those owners have posted up with broken cams.

Actually I am trying to figure out if I should sell mine and buy a newer model. This and other reasons, like wanting the 5 spd trans (mpg), dont want AHC,
Dont like the tough to udgrade nav/radio/climate system, would like steering controls for radio funtions (try to adjust volume with gloves on)
Problem in deciding is mine is super clean, 65k 2002 lx. Good thing is with this site I know what to better look for on the next one.

I hear you. I'm hunting for a 2002 LC with no-nav for some of those reasons. May just keep what I have long term if I can't find one in the next year or two.

I have an 03 & the cam broke in mine last year at around 180k. I only replaced the "cam", which isn't available by itself...you have to buy the entire arm bracket that this cam just sits in. The cam isn't manufactured "with" the arm, it's put in after the fact...so why they don't sell it separately is beyond me.
