I wasn't to sure where to post this review and there is some tech involved as far as 70 Series set up for expedition use. I recently went on a trip to South Africa. I wanted to be equipped to be self sufficient and have a reliable vehicle. After doing some digging I came across 4x4 | 4WD Car Hire South Africa | 4x4 Rental | Vehicle Hire | 4x4 Camper | Southern Africa | Botswana Now being it is a rental company I wasn't expecting much, just vehicle in good working order. However I was blown away at how well equipped the vehicles are. Completely set up and had things and ideas that I'll implement on my own 4x4.

The vehicle is a HZJ79 4 door cab truck. 1HZ, 5 Speed, Factory Lockers, Factory Snorkel. It had better than factory tires on it and as a base platform with the lockers was a nice touch. A winch was also mounted in the front bumper.

Here you can see some of the kitchen stuff. Even with hitting some rough washed out roads everything stayed securely in place. Some things are missing in this picture because breakfast was being cooked at the time. One idea I really liked was the stretch cord they used to hold everything in place was bulk. You can see in the picture at the top electrical eyelets are crimped onto the cord to provide an easy to secure things. The cruiser also had a 60 liter fresh water tank secured in the back with a hose that comes out the very back near the slide out drawers.

An Engel fridge/freezer was also located in the back and an aftermarket dual battery system installed in the truck made it a worry free convenient addition to keeping food and beverages cold.

Another nice thing I liked was the grill for the fire was built to strap to the spare tire. And the table slide and mounted under the front rack that the roof top tent mounted to. Everything was well placed and stored very effectively.

Cooking burners with large propane tanks, were located ahead of the compartment where the air compressor and tire plug kit and tool kit was stored. A high lift jack was stored behind the back seat.

All in all I would say the vehicle is one of the best equipped and would recommend this for anyone wanting to head out into Southern Africa with confidence. After 3000 km of eastern South Africa with one puncture that was repaired and aired up again with all the provided tooling there was no other issues. Only thing you need to bring is clothing and provide your food and drinks. Very good and friendly service and not expensive surprisingly.

Only thing I would change is having better rear armor since there is none. And some 33 inch skinny tires. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
