the sliders would seem to be easy.... not so, they were hard to get to fit correctly and the mount under the cats really bites! I will stay out of the fab bus for now.. :-)

I realize they aren't easy, which is why I would want someone like you with skills to do it as I'm incompetent. I had to ask since I want the same thing, a very stock looking slider for my LX.

I fully understand what you mean.. the metal was around $80 (would be more for bolt on $150ish ) and I spent 5 or 6 hours building them. So they would be around $300... and I have zero shipping connections so that would be REALLY bad..

in the same line if I can ask .. ( coz I'm in love with your front bumper ) can you share an estimate for your front bumper . ?

The bumper has about $140 in steel in it and I spent 16 hours making it.. so it would be $550-$600 if I made one to sell..
I don't do it for a living so it takes me a lot of time..
thanks

Great looking rig. Those are some great looking bumpers and sliders. I wish I would have stayed with that type of slider on my LX, as the custom sliders I had made for me are too narrow for my wife and kids to step on. Perhaps I might try my hand now at fabbing some stuff up after seeing yours. How did you cut the steel for the bumpers? Love the intercooler setup as well - reminds me of the intercooler on my Legacy GT;).

Cheers;

I really like the design but I have to say that for any real use you went just way too small on your plate thickness. Especially on the sliders. .120 wall on a 2x6 box will not hold up very well. It may keep you off the body but it'll definitely dent and bend. Same goes with the bumpers. Any real trail use or hits and its gonna give. 3/16-1/4 wall is about the industry standard for plate bumpers and sliders. .120 wall DOM tube will work for Tube style sliders but even that is pushing the limits. Otherwise if you don't plan on anything but mall to mild trails they look awesome!

Excellent work Bret! Very clean and functional. I think it's funny when you say you don't do this for a living, but it only took you 5 days in your garage.

Maybe you already mentioned it, but what did you use for a finish, paint or powder coat? The powder coat on my bumper is full of rust after only one winter which make me wish I went with rustoleum like I did on my sliders.

Great looking LX!

since you are asking, I will give an honest opinion. The craftsmanship is awesome. I really like the rear bumper and the sliders are great if you want the factory look, and while the design of the front bumper is very nice, to me it doesn't fit proportionally with the rest of the rig. Its just a little too small. If you made the same design and just made it a little taller top to bottom I would think that it would look better. It just seems to me to show too much guts behind it. Again, great design and build, just visually a little small for me. I realize that this is better for clearance etc, but it is a visual trade off.

I use my rig on the trails, but I have a great spotter and almost never smash into anything, my front bumper was designed to be very high up and it will most likely never touch anything except bugs.. :-).. If you measure an ARB you will find that it is .120 plate on the wings just like mine, but mine is .250 on the supports and the ARB is only 3/16. I do know what I am talking about since I just sold my ARB front bumper to build this one. The only thing about the ARB that is stronger it the tube across the top, it really helps stiffen the entire bumper up a lot.. I was planning to put some tube on mine but I ended up really liking it without it..
The sliders could get dented if you landed with all the weight on them, but that's not how I wheel.. and in the event I get into a bad situation and need to really smack them I think (hope) they will protect the soft parts.

thanks for the complements.. and I used black rustoleum so that they can be touched up as I change or scratch them.

I did make it as small as I could and still cover all the sheet metal, but it did turn out a little small for some tastes, my really good friend thinks its to small also.. when we build his it will be bigger.. it takes all kinds..

thanks for all the comments (all good points) guys, it was a fun project and I look forward to what ever turns out to be next on my project list..

blarsen,
5 days to build all of that is amazing!
I really enjoyed following your SC IC info and this stuff is great.

Love the design of all your armor and the truck looks fantastic. You have a great eye and very functional upgrades.

Thanks for posting pics and info

thanks a bunch.. I have had a ton of my fun building my LX..

I really like what Slee makes, I looked at a ton of bumpers before I started mine and the short bus was at the top of my list..

i disagree
the outriggers on these sliders are beef and welded. slider will dent if hit hard but will not bend. i build my first set of 80 sliders from 1/4" outriggers and 3/16 box tube for main slider. just too beefy. i now run .120 tube for slider and 3/16" for outrigger and they cant be dammaged significantly

and how aften does your front bumper take much of any hit?-especially if tucked up tight like these. they wont be dammaged to any significance.

think light for 80 builds

that how I fell about armor also, but some people beat the hell out of their stuff and need some thick stuff.. I on the other hand try and use finesse.. :-)

Very nice fast clean work. I'm the same, once I start I just want it done.

Love the bumpers, clean & professional look - great work for a garage project. i might have to trim the ARB some to get that kind of clearance. Did the supercharger come with the truck ? I'm looking for one or learn how to build one ?

Truck looks awesome:cheers:
