Ok , I realize I need to lower my bumpstops when I install the 850J/863's , so can I see some pics of what you guys used ...

And maybe I should climb under my truck and actually look . I can't remember if I need to buy a pair of bumpstops ... or does the 97 80 come with all 4 ?

TY

If you don't wheel your truck you don't need them ;)

but in case you got really flexed on some off-camber traffic paint or a foreboding pile of cigarette butts forced you engage lockers you might just try using some 2" x 2" square stock cut to 6" to lower your rears. Your fronts, which aren't there on "most" 97's, can be done ala G. Scolaro (just go to his site for info) or you can weld in the tube that drops the rubber bumper inside the spring like BJowett did (I think, apologies if wrong person - hey do a search!)

I'll check George's site .

Tyler,
The earlier 80 series had additional front bump stops that bolt onto the frame above the axle housing similar to what you have on the rear of your 97. I think they came on the 91-93s. The holes and captured nuts are still there through 97; however, Toyota didn't add these front bump stops. Call C-Dan and order yourself up a pair (IIRC, I paid about $26 for both of mine a few years ago from John Hocker.)

Anyway, I have these up front nothing else and seem to be fine w/ my 35s and 1.25 inch wheel spacers. I have yet to make the front rub and that is over some pretty tough trails at Paragon and Rausch Creek. Due to the less than flexible design of the front control arms, I really have to try hard to stuff a front tire to reach the point where the front bump stops would come into play. The exception to this of course would be Baja style jumping like we see pictures of from Surf and Turf. The rear suspension seems to flex much easier and I think that the bump stops are much more of an issue in the back.

If you want the additional assurance of lowering the front bump stops, I think it would be easier to fab up a block spacers (similar to what Christo sells to drop the rear bump stops) and put under a new set of the older 80 series bump stops (sourced from C-Dan) than it would be to make a spacer for the rubber cone in the spring.
