I am going to put together a build thread to keep up with the details of the few improvements the truck needs.

The truck was owned by an across the street neighbor since 21’, prior to his purchase it was a one owner 80 Series that had always been local to the area. I wasn’t necessarily in the market for another 80 Series, but this one was just too nice not to purchase and make the few needed improvements. I will determine its future when I get everything completed.

Here are a few pictures in the condition I took possession and a quick summary of what is next!

Here is a brief list of the plan, so far!

The truck was well baselined, so there are just a few things needed. The truck had a recent front axle service, new brakes, and good service history.

Mechanical:

Install new Toyota wiper blades, because I dislike aftermarket ones.
Change Heater control valve and new Toyota Red Coolant.
Oil Change with Toyota 5W-30 and T Filter.
Inspect Brakes, Bearing Pre Load, U Joints etc.

Suspension:

The truck was lifted many years ago with the standard OME lift kit and the previous owner had just installed new OME shocks.
Ride and Drive is good, but thought I should check the condition of the OME bushings only to find out they were brand new, the catch is that they hadn’t been installed.

Check Caster and apply appropriate non bushing correction method and align.
Rotate the 6000 mile old Falken 315’s.

Interior:

The truck has new leather in the front seats, rebuilt bottom cushions, and a new seat gears.

New matching Leather for the second row seats have been ordered, not that the rears re terrible, I just like things to match.

Recover the Gray Steering Wheel at Cover Craft.

New LED interior lights from Odd Iron Off Road

Exterior:

I love the 90’s but gold emblems weren’t my favorite automotive accessory of the day, however the Toyota Black Chrome was very cool, so I had to make the change. I used a little different process than I had used on 40th anniversary/ Collector Edition, they are a little darker than the factory ones, but look pretty good.

The original owner had a local shop custom fabricate a robust rear bumper with a swing out tire carrier. First step was to remove the swing out and place a spare underneath. I also had some Chequer plate made to help finish the rear bumper. Undecided on if I will leave the rear bumper or return it back to a stock rear bumper and factory splash guards, but this looks okay for now.

Nice find! Looks like you got a nice one, if you decide to get rid of that bumper let me know

Thanks!

There is a strong possibility that I will remove it and go back to the stock rear bumper and splash guards, the nice thing about the design is the rear cross member is intact underneath.

After a new coat of paint and the aluminum tread plate it looks pretty good and would be nice for anyone who uses a roof rack.

I will reach out when that time comes!

Nice!

I have always been intrigued with the color and now like it so well I may end up keeping it and possibly selling the 147k mile white 80 I have had for almost 20 years. We will see!

This one is just about finished up, too many other projects slowed the progress, but Moonglow is starting to stand very tall!

I will post up updated pics next week with the end results of the semi restoration before it goes on one of the auction sites.

I would love for it to stay in the Mud family, if you are interested or know someone who is please reach out, due to my Summer schedule I don’t plan to place a classified ad, will likely just submit to BaT etc. if the timing works out and move to the next project!

I haven’t added up the total spend, sure it is well in the $30k’s and frankly that is irrelevant to value. I figure it will bring $29-31k in the current market, if anyone wants to make an easy deal on the forum, make a fair offer and I will move onto the next project. Could possibly be interested in trades for other Cruisers, let me know what you have!

Here are a few pictures, this was a fun project.

As most, I spent more than I anticipated, but pleased with the result.

I will work up a listing as I make a decision this week on BaT, Consignment, etc.

If anyone has interest from the forum please reach out, not certain I would accept trades, but will always listen.

I am guessing the market is ~$30kish? If you are interested, please reach out VIA PM, I already have my eye on the next project!

Here are some pictures of the truck finished up and headed to a new home!

Truck sold last week to a local Mountain Biker, I am pleased that it stayed local for the near future and there is a new member of the 80 Series family!

The Rare Moonglow color has aged so well, it would be a great seller in today’s Toyota Truck Lineup!

Fun project on a deserving Low Mileage, no roof rack/rear dust spoiler example.

It isn’t getting any cheaper to get everything completed on these trucks, but with the scarcity of good low mileage trucks the results are positive!
