At the moment I don`t understand how the Toyota guys fixed such an unbroken knob on the "metal part" of the door, any ideas.... ?
Cheers

just looked in my parts stash, i have one that's less broken, but still missing a chunk... a common problem?

some sort of glue would be your best bet.

are they the same ones as the ambulance door latch? i have not had an older cruiser for years, so mine would be from a rear amby door lock.

they are held in place with the little screw that fits in the counter sunk hole on the one side. IIRC there is a corresponding hole on the little post that they mount on.

fawk wood! make them out of aluminum, or machined out of brass. then they would last for ever.:grinpimp:

hmmmm, maybe i should see if the machinist at work could knock a few of them out for me at a reasonable price.

cheers

Thanks Crusty :clap::clap:...
what I do:
a) first clean the parts perfect
b) glue them
c) try to fill the lost(broken ) part with such a Epoxy

and fix it again.

glue is best for huffing:hillbilly:

i should have some custom brass and/or aluminum ones in a week or so.

the CNC operator at work is a hell of a nice guy:grinpimp:

how many do you want? just pm your postal addy and i'll send some to you when they are done.

i don't even have latches that will fit those knobs, just wanted to see if we could make a reasonable copy. sort of a "dry run" for parts i really need.

cheers

Good Morning Crusty,
I`m not in a hurry, the red 45 drives very well without the knob ;)
a)
I agree, it´s important to find the right glue. There are a lot of new professional industrial glues on the market, will see ;)
b)
great ..... if I take two but want to see a pic of them first :D
c)
in the meantime I sharpen my carving knife ;)

Thanks again & Cheers
Peter

Crusty,
just measured my broken knob :D .....
.... it´s the same size 3,1 or 3,2 cm
viewed the door/inner lock and now I know, how they are fixed ...found the little original screw.
Mounted today two vintage boxes *, I had stored over the years, again on the front bumber (left / right)
of the olive BJ43.....
looks great must make a pic, so you can see it.
Cheers
Peter

Crusty,
made 2 pics of the lock*
first is the broken (left) ... with the little screw,
second the perfect, so you can see this vintage lock, don`t know if you have seen it before.

yes, that's the one. the lock "knob" is the same as the rear ambulance door lock knob.

it's too bad you can't find just the part you need. most of the ones i have ever seen are broken or cracked or just missing.

i have never seen just the "knob" as a replacement part, i wonder if toyota has them? (just answered my own question)

part number 69320-60031 looks to be the whole assembly, no breakdown of any other parts :frown:

oh well, just have to wait for the machinist to be done:grinpimp:

cheers

Problem solved ;)....
Needed some new tie rod ends for the Red, so I asked my Toyota dealer for the knob ( only the complete lock is available)
but I can use a new lock for the right door ( isn`t in good shape since I bought the truck) so I have a new knob for the left door.
Price for a complete lock is 87 € / tax not included - 10 % discount from my Toyta dealer = 78,30
Will order it in the next weeks or so....

Cheers
Peter

specter has just the knobs in stock...6.69
Thanks for input, searched a bit at SOR and found it....

... think it`s a Toyota part and they get it from Toyota, means Toyota must still have them. Will do a a new research at my Toyota dealer ( search for the Land Cruiser Rear Doors 1975-1984 40 Series) ;)
