I pilot an 1990 FJ62. While taking apart my wateroutlet to replace the thermostat I broke one of the bolts off in the lower half of the housing. Oops. Is there a trick or tool to get it out? or should I just replace the housing while I have it apart. I also bought four of the sensors for the housing. and lately it has been stalling after driving it back and forth in stop and go traffic. Just replaced the TPS had a 51 code come up.

As far as the last of your question:
When it stalls, does it refire without effort, crank forever and finally catch, spit and sputter back to life, etc? Any driveability problems other than stalling?

This is a very general answer, but it's the best I've got for now. You're gonna have to check the entire ignition system (weak ignition) and fuel system (fuel starvation). How's the maintainance on the beast? I.E. how old are the plugs, wires, fuel filter, and such?
Do you have an FSM (factory service manual)?
 
Yes I bought the FSM after buying the truck(7-7-05 200k miles now it has 244k). I change my fuel filters with my oil changes with Toyota parts. I replaced the fuel pump in 07. Recent upgrades mean green alt. and starter (still hard to start and it sounds different). In march I replaced ignition system with one of those flamming kits that man a fre sell. It ran good for about week and then started idling rough again. While replacing my TPS i had what looked like oil in my air intake hoses.i plan to check the timing after I get her running again.
 
I'm not familiar with the MAF kit. Check the simple stuff like fouled plugs, bad coil, and go up from there. Remember that higher heat = higher electrical resistance, so an electrical part starting to crap out can do so only during high underhood heat situations. Follow your FSM procedure about checking the fuel pressure.
"Oil in the intake hose" means that the PCV is drawing up oil along with the blow-by gases.
 
Regarding the broken bolt, I had fun with one of those once... I had a bolt break off flush with the top of the lower housing, tried to use a bold extractor to take it out, the kind you drill into it with. Nonetheless, I had no luck, actually broke the extractor (it was a "Grabit" from TV fame). So I threw on some liquid make-a-gasket, put on the 3 other bolts and hooked all the hoses up, filled up the coolant system until I got near the top and coolant started pouring out. Turned out the bottom housing cracked near the head due to the pressure I put on it while trying to extract the bolt. All this while I was in a friend's garage right before Thanksgiving last year (lived in an apt at that point). I called CDan and ordered the housing, one of only 6 or so in the US. Well, my friend's wife didn't like the truck in her garage, so I had to get it towed, despite the fact that my friend only would have had to park his car in from of the garage door for a few days :mad:. So, I had a shop install it, and I was good to go after that.

The moral of the story? Be careful with those bolts (even with WD40, they still get stuck)! Use a good bolt extractor! And do it in your own garage! :)
