I looked around for this but couldn't find. Which brass drifts do I need for the knuckle build, I bought the three piece napa set, and want to make sure I have the ones I need. If you have or could take a picture that would be great.

If you hold the drift in a fist and the drift extends out of two opposite sides of your fist, you'll be fine.

Cool Iv'e got that one and two smaller all are round not tapered.

I just use a brass hammer to whack everything apart.

That must be one BFBrass Hammer. Use a brass drift in between the hammer and the object you are mad at....more control, can use a BiggerFH, and less trauma at the impact site.

I'd go to Sears and get theirs.
I checked Napa and they said $70.00
Went to sears, $19.00 Same exact set. Solid brass is solid brass no matter how you look at it.

and from experience it is GOOD to wear gloves, SMART to hold the drift in a pair of vise grip pliers when whacking the crap outta it with a BF hammer! and IMPERATIVE to wear safety glasses!

The good thing about brass is that you can sand or grind it pretty easily to any point you need, which you may find you might need to drive out the kingpin bearing races. I always try to pick up cheap ones when every I see them, because they seem to get shorter and shorter as time goes by.

just make sure you clean up well and don't use the cheap brass...they tend to leave shavings.

I paid $40.00 same as the sk set from sears, The $19 set from sears, cheap tools scare me they seldom last as long, but how often will I use these (hopefully twice in the next month)

You'd be surprised how handy it is to have something stout, yet soft to whack on things. I wouldn't worry to much about how cheap the are or aren't, its always good practice to clean everything really well when working on anything. That being said good drifts are awesome I just like cheap ones to customize.

I was thinking about that actually, buy the cheap ones and make some custom drifts...

Back the nut off flush with the end of the stud...more surface area to seat your brass drift, and less likely to damage threads on the stud.

This works great for knuckle studs as well as lock out/drive flange studs/cone washers.

I just got one about a month ago at harbor Freight in Harrisburg PA
approx 11/16" x 12"

..... $7.99

brass hammer was about $12-$13 IIRC

When I did my front end, I just got a cheap set of brass drifts from Harbor Freight. They worked just fine and look like they will keep working for a long time. Sometimes, a cheap tool is all you need.

I'm wondering what the difference is between cheap and not cheap. When I compared the Napa ones and the Sears ones they were identical in every visible respect. Both are made of solid brass, so how would one leave shavings while the other one doesn't?
Just curious...not being cheeky.
