Just had a new set of 295/75/16 Nittos installed on my '99! Got rid of some badly worn Michellins 275/65/16s that sucked when they were new.

I know this is a "pictures required" post, but the I haven't had a chance to take some yet... soon!

These new shoes definitely improve the ride and look of the vehicle. It's been said before, but this is how these rigs should come from the factory!

As far as road noise, I can't tell the difference between the Nittos and the Michellins...

I thought they would rub the inner-wheel well during tight turns, but so far no problems!

Now I can move on to the next phase of my scheme: lift kit, followed by a Slee rear bumper, then some sliders, then a safari roof rack... YEAH!YEAH! :bounce:

Congratulations. Enjoy your new shoes.

Out of curiosity- how many miles on your 99?
Do you have the original shocks?
Are you going with the OME lift?

Where is Chuco? I don't guess I've ever been there.

I know you know but I'm sayin' it anyway!!!

PICS!!!!! :flipoff2:

Congrats :)

I would assume you got the TerraGrapplers? I finally got my recently purchased '99 in the snow today around Tahoe...the Michelins really suck even in just 3-4 inches of slushy snow. I would have expected them to have been better than that...they gotta go NOW!

Nittos are the way to go

Congrats on the new meats. I actually didn't mind the Michelins in the snow. They were a lot better than the BFG MTs I have now.

Our company has a Suburban for hunting & fishing, etc. and the BFG tires on it were not very good in the snow...although to be fair I was driving the 'Burb off-road in about 6" of snow too.

I put the Nittos on my '99 and can definitely hear them more than the LTX's. Mine are 285/75/16's. It doesn't bother me, I actually like it. The truck rides better, and looks a lot better.

The BFG's you guys say were no good in the snow -they weren't AT KO's were they? I can say that my BFG AT KO's are amazing in the snow. If I weren't in snow / ice territory I would go with the Nitts or the Revos but you can't beat these BFG's for snow traction without chains.

The 'Burb has near new BFG A/T KO...

Maine:

I cannot imagine the Nitto TG's not performing as well or better in the snow in comparison to the BFG At KO's. Siping is very similar.

bump for pics

Juke,

That may be, but the tread design and compound are different. The Nitts are not rated for severe snow service and the BFG's are. I have not driven in the snow with the Nitto but I think the rating is more than just marketing.

There is a huge difference between a few inches of snow, where the BFG AT's will shine, and a few feet of snow, where they will not shine and you will need some fat MT type tires.

The BFG AT's do great on snowy roads. I have experienced this first hand.

I have not driven the Nittos on snowy roads.

I'm not sure about the "severe rating". Testing for the rating may be cost prohibitive for a smaller company and therefore not worth it. This is just a theory, so don't quote me!

Pictures!!!

Sorry about the delay, I was having some technical issues with the digital camera...hopefully this works out!

any huge advantage in going from the factory size to the size you've chosen?

Yeah....It looks a heck of a lot better!

Seriously, the Michellins were no good in any kind of water/snow/slush/etc.

They were pretty worn when they came off, but even new those tires weren't good at all in wet conditions. I also had some on my 93 4Runner and the performance ws just as bad.

THAT is a beautiful transformation! Now go get 'em dirty! :D

Nice color btw; nice to see something besides grey, white and black for a change.
