Not to whine but I need help with wiring my Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller in my 97 FZJ80. I lost my FSM to a garage fire last year and haven't replaced it. I know......

Can anyone help me determine what wire the brake wire to the controller splices into?

I have four wires going into the brake switch behind the brake pedal.

One is green with a white or silver stripe running the length of the wire with single silver dashes.

One green with orange stripe running the length of the wire.

One red with 2 silver dashes next to each other running the length of the wire.

And one red with a green stripe running the length of the wire with 2 silver dashes next to each other.

I will be buying a new multi-meter today (also lost in the fire) so this may help me figure things out. wiring is not my thing. Does the harness need to be connected to tell which lead is hot only when the brake is applied?

The green-white is the brake activation I used for my tekonsha voyager. My book doesn't even show the other wire colors (all coming from the switch being green white). This wire is the sensor wire for turning on the relay in the brake controller making it inertia active only under braking. You can over ride the inertia switch by moving the slider knob on the controller manually.

They have wiring diagrams on thir website....

And yes...it does need to be connected to tell which is hot. Also, once I got mine hooked up, I had to hook up the trailer to the truck in order to test it b/c it uses the trailer for the ground.

I think he's speaking of being on the truck side (as in the brake light switch wiring codes), not the controller side.

I actually broke down and bought a $20 multi meter from Sears and found the correct wire. I found it very tight under the dash and found it easier to remove the switch. I had my wife push on the brake pedal with an 8' 1"x2" from the back cargo area as I unbolted the switch while upside down on the drivers floor. I also made a reference on the switch bolt with a hacksaw blade so it would be in the same location as before removal. Once the switch was removed it was easier to find which wire was hot all the time and which one was hot only when the brake pedal was pushed. Spliced into it, reinstalled the switch, now I just have to tow the trailer and adjust the brakes.
