Hey Gang,

Quick Question...

I am replacing the pads in the front, and noticed that the old pads wore a little uneven.

Upon disassembly, I noticed that there was only one "retaining clip" (read: Paperclip looking thing that forces the pads towards the caliper pistons) on each caliper...

Are there supposed to be two of these on each side?

Do you think that the pressure asserted by these clips would be enough for one side of the pad to wear faster than the other?

Thanks,

I pressume you mean the anti-rattle springs, one on each side on the lower (IIRC) of the caliper. Not essential equipment, but keep them if you have them.
Even though these are fixed calipers, no pads will ever wear evenly, leading edge temperature and drag rates against lagging edge etc etc.

uneven brake pad wear causes for?

Nissan did lots of research on this for their flagship Q45's. Found that right inside consistently wore significantly faster-but they went ahead and put wear sensors on both right rear pads--only. Seems road dirt kicked up by front tire tends to load up on right rear inside.

HOWEVER, properly cleaning ALL the brake hardware--pins, all caliper bearing points, all moving parts--then lubricating with correct lubricant as specified by OEM is ESSENTIAL to getting even pad wear. Any pins or other hardware with any wear you can feel should be replaced. Cleanliness, then re-lubrication with right stuff is often overlooked. Goes without saying that caliper seals and pistons have to be in as-new condition to work properly. If in doubt, get a rebuilt unit from auto=parts store.

I only saw 1 spreadclip on all 4 of my calipers when I did my pads, so most likely only 1 each to begin with.

Thanks Gang...

I just wanted to make sure...I checked w/the Dealer today, and there IS only supposed to be one per caliper.
