Presently in the process of diagnosing a brake noise I was getting from the DS. Removed the wheel to find a groove in the rotor and almost nothing left on the pads. Compared to the PS, the wear on the pads is significantly different. Also, after removing the clip, pin and anti-rattle spring, I wasn't unable to pull the pads out on the DS. Are there any steps I am missing to remove the pads?

What would cause the wear difference? Stuck Caliper?

Also, I would like to get a copy of the birf rebuild DVD. I pm'd the author but no response. Is there another way to get a copy?

It looks to me like a sticking caliper.

Rebuild the calipers on both sides, or replace with remans.

Rebuilding is cheap, but could be time intensive (especially if you get a stuck piston). Remans are more expensive, but fairly quick (just swap 'em out).

I would also replace the rotors, as they will not be balanced side to side.

So I went to order new rotors, pads and calipers from CDan at American but he's on vacation. Is there another LC guy at American that you guys can recommend? Thanks again for all the advice.

I guy named Onur. On this forum he's Beno.
Good luck.

When I replaced my rotors I went to ORiley, and they ordered them in for me - cheaper than the dealer. I did not know about cdan at the time.

Rotors I got were Brembo, so quality was first class. Worth a phone call to find out.

I haven't seen the Brembo's first hand, so I can't speak for them, but every aftermarket rotor/caliper/pad has been smaller/thinner/lighter than OEM. Les Schwab wanted to put after market calipers on my truck that were quite literally half the size of OEM (and for about the same price too  ).

I've yet to personally see something better than OEM. :meh:

bcrosbie: Check your PM.

The reman calipers from Schucks/O'Reilly were exactly the same (to the naked eye) as the OEM. Not sure how Les Schwab was planning to put on smaller calipers?

Do you remember which brand it was?

Also, just a FYI, I tried Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters for parts because I planned to do a knuckle rebuild as well but he's also on vacation.

Cardone, not real impressed with the seals/pistons they used (I ended up reusing my old, cleaned up pistons, and a OEM seal kit I had on hand), the caliper body itself was great. I called around to several parts stores, and they were the only ones available that day. I would probably have used NAPA otherwise, just based on the parts/service I have had there before.
