What is the part circled in red called and can it be replaced?
When bleeding I had a fine mist of brake fluid squirting out of the top of the connector (yellow arrow) where the hardline fits into the coupling nut. I reflanged the hard line and when reconnecting the coupler have found it not biting, as if it the male coupler or the female end is stripped. How difficult do you think it would be to tape the female side? Any advice is appreciated.

or the "new" flare is too big and won't let it go down into the female to allow the threads to grab
with the nut slid up on the tube, does the flare go down into the 90?

Great question. I think it does. I will confirm tomorrow and let you know.

It looks cross threaded in the picture

I got it from SOR. I think it’s this part, 086-76L-U.

It's number 13 in this diagram which is toyota part number 90414-10008. Also known as "Way, No. 1 (for front brake tube). It is two elbows mounted on a plate. one or both could be easily replaced with something aftermarket.
