I chose to rebuild the motor with new guts (kit from UK, bought on eBay ~$160) and rebuild the master cylinder with new Toyota kit (~$80, Partsouq). At 320k miles, I did notice slightly better braking, and I felt more secure going down Black Bear. I thought it was worth the time and money, myself, and its a pretty easy job.Does it make sense to replace the brake booster motor as a preventative maintenance item. Or just bite the bullet and replace the entire unit? $100 vs $1300
Is your safety or family’s safety only worth $75.99?
I agree! If you want to change it out as PM then wait until Labor Day and I bet Serra Toyota will have a 20% off with free shipping. That would be the time.Is your safety or family’s safety only worth $75.99?
Another instance of compromising the legendary reliability of these trucks by slapping barf parts on.
Most of us doing this repair will only need to do it once. My booster is 17 years old with 264k.
I did the exact same thing! Time will tell how long the rest of the MC seals and the accumulator hold up, but rebuilding the motor with quality parts should prevent any issues with sudden lose of braking.I chose to rebuild the motor with new guts (kit from UK, bought on eBay ~$160) and rebuild the master cylinder with new Toyota kit (~$80, Partsouq).
