hey guys

Brake booster hissing when pressing on brakes, do i need a new booster?
Also pulling hard to right when braking. is this another issue entirely?
If yes what are the alternatives to OEM, that would bolt straight up?
Could a hilux van fit for example?

Yup. Your booster is done. Check your Master Cylinder as well. It may very well be leaking fluid into the booster, which is what killed it.

What kind of booster you need depends on what year is the rig and whether you have disc or drum brakes. OEM is no longer available.

The pulling is not related to the booster. Most often it's from something leaking, fluid on linings.

How does the booster perform, still give good power assist, if so, may not be bad? When at rest, the booster holds vacuum on both sides of the diaphragm(s), when the pedal is pushed, vacuum is vented from the pedal side making the power assist. There is a boot/filter/muffler over the intake, with age these become less effective, so can become more noisy. If it's leaking/hissing all of the time, it's bad. If it's leaking/venting excessively, causes idle stumble/miss/stall when pushed, it's bad. Slight hiss when pushed and making good assist, wouldn't worry about it, may go forever that way?

If youve got a 4 post booster in your van any toyota 4 post should work. I swapped a 92 4runner booster into my 85 fj60 without issue. Just make sure you get one thatll fit. Some of them vary in diameter and thickness so your master may be pushed away from the firewall if you end up w the thicker version.
