I have searched all threads related to a brake booster swap and have found 1-2 others that had the same problem but did not explain how to fix it.
My problem is in the reinstall of the new booster. I can't get it through the firewall because there is some kind of plate that is blocking it. I don't think it is the plate inside the passenger compartment where the four mounting bolts for the booster is located but another plate inside that is under tension and keeps getting in the way. Should be an easy swap but this darn plate will not cooperate. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Honestly didn't have an issue going back in assuming you have it oriented the correct way. Going back in was the easy part, basically dropped in.

Have done several without drama. Need to make sure the pushrod is not hitting the brake pedal arm as you push it on.

It is not the push rod. From engine side, I can see inside the holes that another plate with four holes is covering the bolt holes. It has some pretty good tension on it also. I can get a flat head screw driver in there and move it over but it moves right back covering the holes when I try to insert the booster.

Sounds like the backing plate has come loose. You could tack it in place, or just line it up and put it together.
