Trick to adjusting brake booster rod

How do you counterhold and turn this to adjust the length?

I tried using needle nose pliers, but it the rod just slips and rotates, not the nut.

I need to adjust it out a hair:

I'd say delete this, but it might help someone else.

7mm deep 1/4" drive socket and small water pump pliers worked.
