Holy crap. I agree, sometimes it just amazes me what some shops try. I really miss Jereme with Asian Specialized. Too bad he couldn't make it in this economy. He was extremely honest with me and everyone that I sent to him. Good HONEST mechanics are hard to find.

As far as you working on that thing...GOOD LUCK brother. I wish I could give you a helping hand.

Jack

Me too!
julez aksed if you were around this weekend for it...I told her (sadly) NO! She said "what the hell is he going out of town for in a crisis like this?":D
I donno if they were being dishonest or not...Me personally, they were covering their ass for sure. Cant blame them for that. And Im glad that they didnt get into anything before consulting me on it first. Itd have been worse if they had tore into the engine before addressing this situation for sure. Then Id have been INTO them. this way it was..."sorry, but Ill do it myself." "okay, I understand"

BTW...Have a great trip and be safe!

He did the front brakes on my 100 for me. All he did was bitch that the Toyos on my 100 were heavier than Swampers, what a whiner.

Actually I think he is still working out of his home. I'd have no problem taking any of my cars to him.

OOOOH YEAH!!!!
I too am a HATER of the 3.0 3VZ-E motor.
I ran out of ways to label the hoses coming off that thing and Im not quite sure how it will all go back together. It SUUUUUUCCCCCCKS!
10 hrs to get it down to the heads. Then, I couldnt pull em cuz there is some weird 20 point head bolt...WTF!?!!?!?

:bang::bang::bang:

Hope this bitch runs again!

I told you it was going to be fun.:flipoff2:

Are you sure it is that wierd of a head bolt? Toyota likes to use 12pts on their headbolts, at least that is what they are on the 1FZE.

I hope for your sake it does also.

LOL!
It was actually a 12 pt in a 14mm. I didnt wanna risk it until I knew for sure. It wouldnt be a good bolt to strip out not knowing.
I honestly never doubted you on this, and you are certainly RIGHT. This is NOT FUN to work on. I think NOW that I know HOW to get in...it wouldnt be AS bad, but its still really s***ty how they set it up. Like I said. The very front of the motor to the timing belt is BEAUTIFULLY set up. Nice and easy, everything moves in a relatively easy sequence, but beyond that....FAAAAAWWWK!
Here are a few pics of my strife!

Interestingly enough....a set of re manned heads was CHEAPER than taking it to a shop!? Who would have thought.
Although. Its probably a good thing this happened cuz the timing belt was getting BAD, all the belts needed to be done and the injectors are basically SHOT. Couple that with SHOP time and parts. this would have been EXPENSIVE. Even more than what Im paying now and itll be about a grand when all is said and done.

I think it was the PS rear cylinder...(AF in there) and it seemed to me that the heads may have actaully have been what was leaking oil. There is oil around the back corners off the block. There's really nothing there that would leak besides that. Also, there was a POOLING of oil in the middle of the block where the knock sensor sits.
Its always been a DRIPPY SOB. Im hoping that it dries up after this.
Should run really nice if I dont screw up hoses and wires which is ENTIRELY possible.

Thanks boys!
Not much to do right now except wait for the heads and injectors. Spent a couple of hours cleaning the intake and the block last night. Had Rusty Dan come over and inspect a wire that I need to call toyota about.
I too just hope that everything goes back together smoothly. OH GAWD the HOSES!!!!!
If I get all the parts in by the weekend, I dont see why I wouldnt be able to get it back together. FAMOUS LAST WORDS!!!!

How's the 4runner coming along?

Keith,
Thanks for asking. It has been a FIGHT, ALL THE WAY!
This eve. in the garage, I started to laugh a little bit about it.
EVERY TIME I may think to myself..."Im pretty good at this stuff." There is SOMETHING that always knocks be back into reality. Now this doesnt only apply to automotive stuff...its EVERYTHING. My whole life has been like that. Its not a bad thing by any means...It keeps me humble and striving to grow and do better.
So...this lil rig has been my slap back into reality that...Im still and ALWAYS will be learning.
RIGHT NOW, I have ONE LAST valve that I CAN NOT seem to get in spec. because I do not have access to all the shims that I need to do it. Once that grubby bastard is in line, It should go back together fairly easily. I had it ALMOST assembled to where I was ready to put the plenum back on ( which is kind of home free after that), then I had this nagging feeling that I SHOULD check the valve clearances...It kept me awake that night! That was a Whole can of worms, but Im glad that I did, cuz if I hadnt...Id have been SCREWED!
So Im ALMOST there!

And here I thought I was the only one that got SLAPPED down whenever I get too confident.

I'm still trying to complete a simple engine swap in a boat that's been in my yard for 3 years..

"never give-up, never surrender", it always amazes me how these projects can take on a life of their own. The lessons learned and the stories told sometimes seem sweeter than the journey, at least when working on cruisers.

Sorry, my fingers were chatty and philosophical. (SAT word):grinpimp:

Nope...You are NOT the only one...
Really, its not a bad thing. Ive known people who never seem to get the "karma kick in the ass" and most of them are a$$holes.

For sure. However...Ive had better success with my cruiser endeavors thus far. Now that Ive said that with a rig HALF complete and a non indigenous motor in it...

DONE! NOW I CAN START WORKING ON MY LAND CRUISER!

I'm just waiting on the high lift my dad ordered to drill the mounting holes. I dont want to use mine and find out his wont fit.

I also installed a gas strut on the swing away so it works nice and smooth!

Damn dude!
That came out great!
WTF is that latch?

Hook me up with some info on that. Looks interesting.

I need a bender!

DAMN!

i'll take some pictures of the latch, it's easier to see how it works then it is to explain it. I made this entire bumper from scratch including the latch. The only thing I didnt make were the recovery points and the bearing assembly.
