boogered diff fill plug

I have got no clue how I am going to get the rear drain plug out on my 60. The other thing that is a PIA is the fact that the emer brake cable is in the way to get the wrench on the plug itself. Any ideas, other than welding, which I can't do? What is the advantage to to using a hex head plug? It's strange I just changed the front and rear diff oil on my 1979 Toyota Plow truck (the oil was original!!) and the plugs came right off, no problems at all! But on my 87 fj60 the oil was changed before and the plugs seem to be a bitch to get off.

I dealt with this about a year ago - took me three hours, a BFH, a propane torch, and an abundance of coarse language to FINALLY get the mutha off. When I put the new plug back in, I put some anti-sieze on the threads. I've removed/replaced the plug a couple of times since then and have not run into the problem again.
Anyone see any problems using a little anti-sieze for the diff fill bolts??? Seems to be working pretty good.

just went through this last night with a cover i was painting.

remove the cover
lay it on the ground
pipe wrench or polish metric on the nut
BFH !! couple good smacks should do it

lefty lucy!!!;)

I have never done this personally, but have heard that you can have a nut welded to the fill plug (or drain plug too). Seems like this would work great.

This is exactly what I did.

I had the same issue a year or so agowith my transfer case plug: I took a cold chisel and gave it a few whacks (well, more than a few...) but it finally came loose. Rendered the plug useless, of course.

I would still use that one :D

lol

Actually yhere is a good use for that diff plug..

if you wheel in the rocks a lot you might as well weld up your lower plug and use one of the diff bolts as a drain. This plug would be a perfect specimin for welding :)

i dont have anything left to grab with a wrench on my plug. i jsut use vice grips
