bolts through roll bar . . . can it be safe?

This is a link----->Trick Tabs are good for mounting many things.

What the fabrication specialist told me when I ask this question was that drilling a hole would create a stress riser that would, in time, cause a fracture in the roll bar material. He introduced me to Trick Tabs.

If it's a stock roll bar it's gonna bend if you roll anyway. A buddy used some pipe clamps from the local Ace Hdw. and they worked nicely. Go take a look at them and you will see what I'm talking about.

Later,

If you really want to get fancy;

1. Find a section of pipe whose ID is slightly larger than the OD of the bolts you want to use.

2. Drill rollbar pipe to suit this new pipe you found for the through bolts.

3. Weld the smaller pipe into the roll bar and grind smooth.

4. Install your rack or whatever and bolt into place.

Now your roll bar is even stronger. Just make sure any bolt protrusions face away from you in the event of a roll/accident.

I like this ida. Maybe need to think about it. I just checke the weather report and they are having thunder storms and shows pretty much evey other afternoon so I will need to throw onmy hardtop. SO I will not need to deal with mounting to the roll bar. But, this isn't a porject I am not going to continue. I was rushed to get this done before this weekend. Now I will have more time to think this through an I like the idea above. I might do it this way.

Will post up in a few weeks when this is completed.
