I think that bolt wanted out!:hillbilly:

IIRC I have a box full of 3 spd gears from one that I cracked the case on, if you need them?

gears look fine, t case loose ? tighten up welded a plug, pics to follow ....gonna run it let ya know after a few trips around the block:hillbilly:

iwas talking to a freind who was into cruisers he said they had to tighten t cases all the time ???

well i fixed it up pached the hole and went to payette and its loose again i used locktight but it came loose again  if i take the tranny out clean and tighten???? cruiser out fit has a gasket set for 17. whats the best plan ?? ... kevin , you know any slik tricks how do i keep this together an no drips:confused:

Howdy! Sounds like that stray bolt you had might of bent the transmission output shaft, or something else of equal importance to be very straight. John

why did it come loose the first time ? i just put this motor tranny combo in the truck

i see, i dont know about that other guy you talked to saying they always need to be tightened, but i've never heard of it being a problem.

do you guys think the gasket set will help?

dude... "Just Weld It".

hmmm tempting:hillbilly:

It's that weird tranny its bolted to. Try Toyota... :D

Howdy! Like Rhino, I've never seen or heard of this being a common problem. IIRC, you are running a 4.3 in your FJ 40, but I don't remember which transmission and adapters. If your running just an H41/42, I don't think a fresh paper gasket between the tranny and transfer would make much difference. Are you using the AA style transfer case support to the frame? John

4.3 +sm420+alum adapter + 3sp tcase its the thin plate adapter i guess take every thing out clean an put back together??an yes tranny support on back of t case

OK. I would check the threads in that aluminum adapter. They may be sloppy enough to allow the bolts to vibrate loose. Also, watch out for the bolts in the rear support. I have seen them get loose in the back of the transfer case. I stripped several of them out, and I had to oversize them. John

my buddy runs the same tranny and case setup and has not had problems in 4 yrs. i cant imagine a gasket making a difference. like john said, sloppy threads could be the culprit. would it be worth it to take it apart and permamently fix studs instead of bolts?
