Good morning all, I am looking to join the 200 series fan club /owners club. We are looking at a 2016 Land cruiser that has damage to the rear. Would anyone have any idea on the estimate to fix this? How much should we ask from the seller for compensation to replace it? Also, we are located in The southeast suburbs of Denver. Is there a shop that anyone would recommend for mechanical work/ body work on a Land cruiser in southern Denver? Thank you all in advance for your help.

At a minimum, you'll need a new bumper skin, and paintless dent removal. The tailgate dent will almost certainly require some filler/sealer/primer/paint/clear, so I'd budget at least $1500-$3000 USD to make it look as new. It will definitely depend on the shop and ultimately the extent of the damage, which two photos can't really provide.

I'd also check to see if the damage event was on CarFax. If so you have reduced value from that in addition to the cost of the repair. Even if you repair it you'll have to deal with the mark on its record some day when you sell. The older the truck is the less important this becomes. But a 2016 is still a high value vehicle and most buyers should consider the added depreciation.

As far as how much to ask for, I'm not sure that the repair cost is directly related. In other words, if the truck in good condition had a value of $50k and they had it listed for $45k because of the condition then I wouldn't expect a 1:1 deduction in price. Similarly, if they were asking $55k for the same vehicle and it had $3k in damage then even a concession to $50k would be still be a bad deal as you'd end up with $53k into a $50k vehicle.

While the repair cost should definitely be part of your purchase valuation, I would offer not solely based upon that.

Thank you for all of your thoughtful replies. The reason I have considered going with a vehicle that has had minor damage, is I plan on driving this car for as long as it will last, so I'm not too worried about resale value. This will be for my wife for a few years, and then I will have it from my own use when she is done. I appreciate the rough estimate that you gave me for the cost to replace and fix the damages.

I also appreciate the discussion concerning the reduced value with it's history.

Would anyone have any experience with anyone in the Denver front range area that is good with repair + body work? Preferably in the South Denver area?
