since my roll over of my beloved 60,:crybaby: my plan has been to buy another 60 and swap all my good/new parts and mods over and sell the left overs. Its been a few months now and havent been able to find the right cruiser:mad: . So now i am exploring the possiblities of a BODY SWAP.

Everything is still in good running condition on my cruiser, its just the body is destroyed.

Has any one ever tried this and how difficult/time consuming is it:confused: . please give lots of details.

also does any one have a clean body anywhere for sale?

be patient

it would take less time / money to be patient and wait to find a decent cruiser and take what is really great about yours and incorporate it into the replacement then to go the other way around... unless of course you just really want to do it or are planning to make it a mini frame off kind of deal... or, you have a good friend (sucker) who is willing to provide free labor and brings the beer.

there are two threads somewhere on the site where ppl did either a roof replacement or a body swap as part of a 55 restore. there are several places to get a complete roof in good condition. i did a search but couldn't find them for you. both did excellent job of explaining details. if you knew who did them you could pm them and get even more details.

maybe you'll get lucky and one will respond to your thread. cruiserguy posted this link under comments about father daughter FJ55 restore that included a body replacement (on pirate 4x4): http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=414794

If I was going to go to all this work. I would personally go with a HJ61 body with the high roof and the sunroof. More $ but man, thats alot of work!

I think that one day I will have to just swap over parts to a different cruiser, unless I can get some serious rust repair going. Then again, I would lover to have a highroof w/sunroof.

I started with a rusty 89 as a project, but then ran across a good body on a rusty frame in PA. I had a shop in Gloucester, MA. do the body swap for me. Originally estimated at +/-$1000.00, totaled out at $1800.00. It was supposed to take a couple of weeks and took 4+ months. No major resto. Disconnected all the obvious stuff, removed the body, cleaned and painted the frame and rolled it under the good body. Once i finally got it home, i did the OME. So far, so good. The things people will do for a cool ride... Good Luck.
