Hi all! I got this 70 series pick up truck that I bought for the axles to put on my FJ40. I'm not sure on the exact model of the truck, could it be (HJZ75) or (HZJ75), see I'm not too familiar with these 70 series Landcruisers. All I know about this rig is that it came out the ground in a mine and got auctioned. This rig has never been licensed in it's life and I don't have a registration.
The fellow that bought it worked in the mine and knew the rig quite well. In fact it has a fairly new 5 cylinder diesel engine (or rebuild) new tranny and you can see the new gaskets where the diff assemblies has been bolted back together. Back section of the frame is rusty looking but the front part is still painted.
Frame wise and running gear on this thing is almost a shame to be parted out. But on the other hand the body is shot. The only good thing about this body is the RH side door which must've been replaced at some time 'cause it's brand new or like new. The roof cap I guess would also be in good shape and the brackets. The rest would be ideal for converting a RH drive to a LH drive, you know fire wall, dash, under dash, steering column if different and the little stuff.
Where I'm getting at with this is that I wouldn't mind having a small pick up truck for the road that's cheap to run and reliable. You see I really love the look of an '84 to'88 style Toyota truck and what I like about these trucks is that the wheel wells are fairly large so you can fit 35's without too much lift and you can still use the bed of the truck without lifting everything over your shoulders.
Now, my question here is, can a person swap a toyota cab on a 70 series frame without too much problems? Is the steering column gonna line up with the steering box? Are the frames about the same width? Would there be enough room under the Toyota hood to fit the diesel power plant? Knowing that the wheelbase on this Landcruiser is 117" and knowing that a reg cab short box is way shorter in wheelbase, would a person be better off with an extra cab short bed or a reg cab long bed or put a long bed with an extra cab?
If somebody can help me out with this, it would help allot. I've searched to find wheelbase dimensions on Toyotas and just can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I'm all new to these 4 wheel drive toys, always dreamed about it but never could afford it. That's why I'm turning to you guys, the experts, the ones that always ran one of these things, the ones that worked in dealerships in those years and to the hardcore Toyota 4wheeldrivers
