I was going to do a body lift on my 80 series, but I heard that it is a difficult process. A couple of my mates have done their cars Nissan, Suzuki, toyota utility. They said it was relatively easy. I already have a 3.5 inch suspension lift with 33s, want to go to 35s thought bodylift might give mr a little more clearance.

thanks:beer:

The body lift it's self is rather straight forward. Where you run into issues is the mechanical aspects, shifters both high/low and park/ drive ect, and steering all need to be adjusted and or lengthened. The radiator needs to be dropped or an electric fan installed. These are some of the issues that you could run into even with a two inch body lift. Again this is nothing out side the norm, for a body lift, just something’s many do not consider before they start....

I knew about the radiator, it needs to be mounted on new holes lower on the support panel, (ie in original position after body lift). But the shisters have to be modified as well do they? mine is a manual. Why do people tink it is not sucha good idea? anyone done such a bodylift?

On a manual you can probably get away with bending the shifters slightly forward. I haven't done one on my 80 yet. Probably will eventually but I'll do it when I do an engine conversion so I can get all of my clearances correct after that all at once. I did one on my 60. I cut the fan shroud slightly and flipped it. Weird sounding but it worked for my application. Bent the shifters slightly forward using a torch. Steering was OK as I only went 1.75". Bumpers can be an issue. If you have an ARB your headlights might not shine through. Gap in the rear bumper? I built my sliders after the body lift so they matched. Fuel filler? Steering? Depending upon how much you go. I think I had to adjust the emergency brake cabel too. Also right after I did it, I burned up my speedo cable because it moved enough to be too close to my exhaust.

I do not care for body lifts because of the additional forces exerted on the mounts and bolts after a lift. In effect you are driving around on stilts. any normal body movement is exagerated by lifting the body off of the rame. The higher you go the more lateral movement you get. I think it is unsafe (my opinion).

Thanks for the input, I dont think I am going to do it after all ( even though I alrady have the blocks and bolts) I just dont think I need the extra height. I probably only require 3/4 inch in the front and 1 1/2 inch at the rear, which I will either live with or new springs (again) or packers on the springs
