Greg, it's really hard to imagine that NONE of the threads on the sender fitting cut thru the tape and made contact with the head. Even if you used a LOT, chances are it would have cut thru somewheres. And if by chance it didn't, it seems to me that all you would have to do is crank it down a little MORE and it WOULD cut thru.;)

The other thing is that you didn't mess with anything fuel related, so THAT guage going wonky on you wouldn't add up as being caused by the head swap.

All that said, I HAVE heard of the two guages getting fussy at the same time, but that was on an FJ60, so you might want to research in THAT forum to see if there are any good suggestions on what to check.

That's what I thought, too, Mark....that at least SOME of the threads would have cut through and made contact. Maybe just not enough contact? I can try cranking down a little more to see if that helps, but I got them pretty darn snug on the initial install.

It looks (via research here) that the fuel and the temp gauges are powered by the same fuse, so that's where I'll be looking first. It also appears that it is the same fuse that powers the blower for the heater and I've had no problems with that. Hmmm......

Also, I recall that when I almost BBQ'ed the truck last plow season when my wiring loom melted, that these two gauges went wonky on me temporarily when I checked the plug on the back of the gauge cluster. So, that will be where I check second.....
