Recently, my water pump started leaking so I tore it apart and replaced the gasket (with OEM) between the water pump and block. Today I decided to drive my wagon to work for fun and when I got out a nice puddle of coolant was forming under my Cruiser. This time I can see the leak, but can't tell completely if it is from the water pump gasket I just replaced or if it is coming from between the water pump and the backing plate. I'm thinking that it is between the backing plate and the water pump, given the high location on the left side of the engine (2F-E).

Is this bad luck or is there a problem with too much pressure? I have an OEM radiator cap and new radiator.

No advice A Ron but you really have had your share of engine related troubles over the years. I think you are jinxed! Are you going to be at the 3FE Bash this year?

Are you sure the weep hole is not leaking?

I hope you replaced those pre-formed hoses around the pump. I have seen them fail MORE than a water pump. They get dry and brittle....unless you pull them really start pulling and prying around on the hose you may not see a crack.

I swear up and down this wagon hates me. I don't dare get rid of her though. Once again I will not be able to go to the bash. Maybe when my wife is done with school and my kids are out of the house......sigh....

Time to bite the bullet

New OEM from Cruiser Dan $71.62. Rebuilt from NAPA (faulty) $69.69.

Did you clean the area where the water pump mounts on to? I recently did mine and made sue it was clean and true(flat). I had a new pump that Dynosoar gave me that didn't come with a gasket and didn't want to wait so I bought one made by Felpro and so far no leaks.

I did coat the gasket lightly with some gasket sealant:

Anyway, try to find out for sure where the leak is coming from.

Good luck.

I pulled a boner years ago when my stock water pump died; I got a new pump but forgot the gasket and didn't realize it untill it was time to put the new pump on. I siliconed the entire thing with no gasket at all and it never leaked a drop.
