I know I mine just let go... Does anybody know if they usually cause other damage? I am hoping to just replace that bearing and seal in my Runner.

I suppose it's possible that a pinion that wasn't running true due to a cooked bearing could take out the ring gear, but it's unlikely. If it's the big, main bearing that went you'll have to resetup your gears and get a new crush sleeve, unless you're running a solid spacer.

I'd, at the very least, bust it down, carefully clean & inspect all components, and change the carrier bearings no matter what. It's also a good time to add a solid collar, which I view as mandatory. Love those things. Good luck.

A big concern with the pinion is the loss of gear oil that typically accompanies a worn bearing and thus a bad seal. The loss of oil, of course, can cause havoc on the R and P.

I got it home and it looks like it started leaking when I parked it.
