I was given a never used Blitz Metal Gas Can. Other than dusty it is in excellent shape. However, the gasket is cracked and weathered. I have found this gasket online for $0.95. I would rather not pay 9 times that in shipping. Does anyone have an idea where I might find one in S. AZ or Phoenix?

Thanks,

Ross

Can't they put it in an envelope? 'Shipping' should be about $.75.

Maybe try the 4x4 shops? I have no other ideas- I doubt a camping store would stock those.

Larada's army surplus in Mesa or something similar down south.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I wish they could, but the one I called told me shipping was $10  . I thought I would try and find a local source after that.

I will check Larada's at lunch tomorrow, how many do you want?

That would be great Kevin. I only need one. I'll pay for this Friday.

Miller's Supply (surplus) here in Tucson didn't have any. I didn't even know there was a place called Desert Rat 4x4 in Tucson till I checked the phone book. I'll give them a call this morning too.

Thanks again,

Ross

I never told you about Desert Rat, cause they suck a$$. I'll tell you about them this weekend. They might have that gasket though.

Larada's is out of stock, said they have them on order, I asked when they expected them and she said I don't know, we have been out of them for a long time.

Did you find one? If not I have a delivery to make at the evil Desert Rat around lunch time.

I'm still looking, here is what I am trying to find, for the lid not a spout. While I was at HomeDespot for something else I gave it a try, no luck. I am getting this sucka ready for my new bumper :).

I spent some time today looking for this stupid gasket online today. I also came across more comments than I could read about "they leak".

Do Blitz cans really suck as much as a bunch of internet whiners claim? I wouldn't have bought one, but this one was free. I will get this gasket and find out for myself, but man nothing but complaints.

Yeah they don't have the best seal. I wouldn't put one in the cabin with me, but I have no issues with one on a rack outside. They vent when they get hot and the vent is located right on the gasket sealing surface. Seems stupid to me. I wouldn't lay one on it's side for too long either. Basic design but it works.

Yup, I agree with Cliff. I heard they can leak. I have 2 of them and they have never leaked, but I don't drive around with them IN my rig. The pour nozzle could be a little longer IMO. I usually spill a little getting it into the gas filler neck.

Howdy! Yup, they usually do wheep some fuel due to heat or motion. I've seen diesel carried on the roof racks, but not gas. I thnk diesel is less volatile. I always hold the can backwards so the spout stays on top while you pour. Looks pretty stupid, but it breaths better this way. Method works good while pouring stuff out of 5 gallon buckets with the little hole in the lid. Lift it up slow enough that the air going in doesn't have to pass through the liquid trying to get out. If ya hear bubbbles, then your pouring too fast. John

Success!!!

Miller's Surplus has a gasket they purport to be a lid gasket for a Blitz can. I guess a phone call wasn't good enough for them to decide they had one. It is different than the old one, not as thick and one side has two ridges. I now just have to decide which side the ridges are suppose to face. Worth a $1 gamble I think on a free gas can. If it leaks I'll just swap it for one of Alvin's when he isn't looking.

Thanks for the help. Now if I only had a bumper to put it on ... Oh yea, one is on the way :grinpimp:
