I’ve heard so many horror stories from Blackdog Traders. I’m embarrassed that I took my rig there for a few small things and to clean it up. In short the di**ed me around on time and when it came time to pay the bill it magically doubled. I understand these things can happen but without notice or conversation about what was happening.

I later talked to a handful of other individuals who they had rigs there and were called and told to come pick up their rig with them completely disassembled and having to scramble to find a shop that could piece together the work they didn’t do. Nightmare situations from a group in the community. Hated to hear that it was just a big scam that didn’t focus on doing the right thing and quality work.

The company still owes several people money. One of the guys is a family friend of my parents and they left his rig in pieces but kept all the money paid. Absolute trash shop and a scam of a company.

They filed for bankruptcy a few months back. Customers had to get court orders to remove their vehicles and now up and operational again.

A few have messaged me asking if I will take their rigs... HELL NO.. I've had 3 and will never take another one.

One of them with a FJ40 paid a "65K deposit". He got it back with a rough sanded body, no drivetrain and many missing parts. It was a complete 40 and a daily driver when it went in.

BEWARE they are up and running again. Owners mother is an attorney in the DFW area and no doubt she needs her license stripped and brought up on perpetrating a fraud against the public and felony theft for assisting in this business.

PURE FRAUD!

Met up with owner of a cruiser shop a few months ago to give him some pets to deliver. We talked for awhile and he mentioned how someone called him wanting to sell off all his cruiser parts/tools in the Dallas area.

Landlord would open gate since shop owner was locked out. Business owner was present only some of the time as they loaded up tons of stuff. He purchased at least 3 large trailer loads of parts and rigs.

Sadly who knows whose parts he got along with some expensive equipment at fire sale prices!!

I really thought it was Blackdog. Said younger guy who must have had access to some deep pockets cause tools were all new and expensive. I may be wrong but it was seeing Blackdog that triggered this story.

I haven’t heard of Goods off road

????? was at Goode's a few days ago and spoke with him this morning . Business as usual at Mike's place . Curious to see where that rumor started ?

I had some blacdog employees showing up at my shop for used parts that they needed to remove themselves , every time it was another high school kid with HB frieght tools driving their personal clapped out cars . When Blackdog started the owner kept posting pics everywhere of 70's that I build and sold so I gave him a quick call ;)

They bought a nice fully built hdj81 that a friend of mine built off of BAT for 22k (which was a steal). A few weeks later, they had it for sale for 39k on their site and the description made it sound like their shop built it from the ground up. There were about 150 pictures of the truck on their site and it was identical to when my friend sold it. It was in their ads and in the "builds" section of their website for a few years after

I found a lift gate for the 80 I wanted on marketplace. Sent message, no response. Sent another, no response. From the profile pic I could gather it was the owner of Black Dog. I sent a text message to Black Dog company phone number to see if they had the liftgate. He said they don’t sell parts. He said an old employee actually stole those parts and was using his profile to try and sell them… Apparently it wasn’t his profile. Said they closed the Dallas shop an are open for business in Florida now.
After reading all of this, kinda makes sense. Sucks that they do crap work, but then again, I’m not trying to drop 65k to have someone else do my work for me either.

I’ve never heard of Black Dog until this thread… Trail Tailor on the other hand… still owes me an 80-series bumper… 😂😂 I was curious and did a little internet snoop… looks like Black Dog is indeed ‘up and running’… at least on the interwebs. Definitely has a social media presence… Pinterest, Tik Tok, You Tube, Instagram, not to mention their own slick web page complete with 5-star ratings. Their web page lists a phone number and Google lists an address in Dallas, TX.

Caveat Emptor.

This kinda sleazy car shops are what gives mechanics a bad name. I tell my students honesty is always the best policy. seems lately I have been seeing more shops and parts recourses going down unrepeatable paths. Things like filling orders for things they dont have and taking peoples money and not delivering. Or taking peoples money to make soft tops and then disappearing and not delivering a product. Or taking months and months to fill an expensive parts order to the point where you have to complain to a bad sellers beware thread.

This jogs my memory even more since it seems like shop guy purchased all the parts from was big on LS swaps.

This will be interesting to watch!

Anyone ever purchase a rig from them? Got about 35k put aside for my next vehicle and would love an 80 series cruiser. Live in south Florida (Sarasota) and really wanting to get a nice solid 80. Just not sure who to trust. Any recommendations would be helpful.
Radclerk,
I am making the very tough decision to sell my FJ 80. Not sure if you're interested. I have an auto trader ad up if you want to look there. I hope that's okay I list that on this forum. See below:

Autotrader - page unavailable - https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicle/726687981?LNX=psxlinkshare

With 300k miles at $18.5k, what has it been done to it besides min mods to be that high of a price?

Well that's the Auto Trader price. You know as well as I do, you need some margin for negotiation if you're dealing with the public who may not even understand what they're looking at. The vehicle is immaculate and was maintained by a friend of mine (another LC lover) who is local mechanic and has a 97 LX 460. I have yet to find one with the interior as clean as it is.
