Finally got settle up with the insurance company on my totaled 2013 and have found two possible replacements. One is a 2013 white exterior with 48k miles and the other is a 2014 black with 49k miles. Both in great condition and all southern climates. Prices are within $500 of each other.

Would black color scare many of you away? It is a great deal. Mainly I drive in Iowa, Colorado and Ohio. With the occasional trip to Texas. I average 30k miles a year driving. I'm very good on keeping my vehicles clean.

Then I also think about swirl marks bothering me. If I'm very good with up keep, should I not be so concerned? I would hate pass up a great score on a 2014.

Thank you for the opinions.

i personally like both colors, but i chose white because it hides small dings better and looks cleaner (from 15 ft away), longer than black... i also live in the south and heat in the summer is a small factor. having said that, black sure looks good when it's freshly washed!

My personal opinion is that I would ALWAYS pick white over black. It does not show scratches or dirt anywhere as bad as black, plus where I live, white is cooler than black... temp wise.

Have fun with the purchase... oh, and have you checked the under carriage for corrosion? If you have not done it already, do a search on rust... you will find quite a few threads.

It's personal preference. If you live in an area that gets salt in the winter black will always look dirty. OTOH a lot of the mods (bumpers, TRD Pro wheels, etc) are painted black and the all black exterior looks nice on an LC (IMO).

white truck = less car washes - it hides dirt well.
Black truck = 15 minutes of clean and that's it

Have had many black cars, they show everything. They show even the lightest amount of dust let alone dirt and swirls in the clear appear out of nowhere it seems sometime no matter how careful you are. Just keeping the black paint on my Supra clean and swirl free takes so much time I cant imagine maintaining something the size of a 200 in the same fashion. My 100 is white, is parked outside and has not been washed in weeks and looks cleaner than the supra I washed last weekend.

Whatever you decide, either will probably be a good replacement.

Bear in mind that there was no 2012 LC model in the US, so that 2013 could have been manufactured as early as some time in 2011. This could possibly make it as much as two years older than the 2014 you are looking at.

If it were me, I'd take the 2014 and learn to live with the fact I would always see it as needing a good cleaning

Besides black looking almost instantly dirty...
Have you ever leaned on a black car that's been sitting in the hot sun? It can literally BURN you.
A white car in the same sun? Comfortable to touch. This is why I love silver as a happy medium. It hides dust better than any color, and doesn't get hot.

I have a grey Cruiser...which still gets hot, but hides dust far better than black.

I used to have a black Volkswagen Rabbit as my first car many years ago. One day it was SO hot, I got curious about the old saying of "being so hot you could cook breakfast..." & I literally cracked an egg and it. It actually started to COOK. No joke. (Note: Don't do this! It's not easy to get hardened egg off of paint!).

No more black vehicles for me.

I've only had one black car. Never again. NEVER again. It's just impossible to keep looking clean. Any paint chip and the lighter color primer makes the chip very prominent. It also gets very hot in the sun.

My 2013 LC is my second white car. I really like my white LC.

IMHO, on a 200 series LC:

Super White = looks good
Pearl White = no way
Black = looks good

Mine is Blizzard Pearl, a metallic white. I think it looks great. I'm not a fan of black in general, but I think black on Landcruisers looks particularly bad.

I'm currently selling a black 4runner and it will be the last black vehicle I ever own. The car always looks dirty aside from the day it's washed and waxed. Every single spot of dirt, water, dust, pollen, fingerprint, etc shows. It does look amazing that one clean day though.

Side note: If anyone is looking to buy a Black 2011 4runner Trail let me know! Looks gorgeous when clean.

I've got a silver (2010) and a white (2013). I bought the white used and didn't have a lot of options. I think black looks great and is uncommon on LXs. I'd take black over white any day. Swirl marks be damned.

Thank you all for sharing experiences and your opinions. I did make a deposit on a 2013 but not on either one of the original. The 2014 had more issues on it that the owner confessed to. I crossed that off the list. The white one I wasn't getting a good vibe from the sales rep. It was a lexus dealer and just didn't seem like they were interested dealing nor fixing some things.

I found a 2013 black on tan, 46,000 miles, certified that was traded in yesterday for a 2016 in NW Arkansas. A doctor owned it and babied the thing. He had the clear protectent all around it and looks great! I'm ready for the washing and detailing aspect. Picking it up on Tuesday afternoon.

Thanks again everyone!

Congrats. Hope this one lasts longer :D
