BJ74 overheating... leads to head or head gasket (real time surgery)

Anyone want a 10 year update on this thing?

It still runs... head gasket is still holding. I honestly have not driven it all that much in the intervening time, but it is a fun little vehicle and it is deadly reliable. I don't really like the auto trans, and would way rather have an H55F (in case anyone wants to trade a complete bolt in assembly for mine).

And to answer a long ago question: Yes, there are head studs for the 1HDT and 1HZ and they are fairly expensive but probably worth it. I have two on my shop floor that are coming apart soon and getting all kinds of fancy goodies in them including fancy ceramic coated pistons, brand new matched con rods, and APR head studs.

:)

1. Exhaust manifold gasket had two major leaks.

2. Wastegate holds zero pressure, requiring major air to open. Likely need to replace.

Gonna lap the valves, replace wastegate, and with new gaskets all around maybe the turbo will wake this little engine up a little :-)
