i am the process of doing some electrical upgrades to include installing some 24v LED headlight I got for free. There is definitely something weird about the wiring as I can only get the lights to work in high beam.

My thought is to just change the headlight wires to "triggers" for new relays and run new larger gauge wire off the battery.

If anyone know where the headlight relays are that would be helpful

My HZJ73 has the relays for turn, driving and park lights on the upper right side of the driver side footwell, behind the diff lock controls. Its easy to tell witch is witch by looking in the parts catalogue.

Hello,

This is the relay block location.

This is the relay block detail.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I located the relays under the dash by my left foot. I'm gonna take some readings with the multimeter and probably use these as my triggers for two new separate relays and run power right off the battery thinking about adding a third relay and a buzzer with a light to will go on if the lights are left on and the vehicle is off with the door open

Looks like it's not going to be as simple as I thought this relay is not working like any other relay i have used before. When I pull take reading at the back of the connector for the relay I lose 24v when I turn the headlight switch on. And at the headlight connection I only get 24v at one of the connectors and nothing when I switch between high and low beams. Hopefully the wiring diagram will provide more clarification

Did you ever figure anything out? I've got an issue where high beams do not work, only low beams. I've tried polarity swaps, resistors, etc. and am stuck!

Centex,

I did. I don’t quite remember the exact wiring off the top of my head. But what I do know is I ran completely new wires and relays and ran them through a separate fuse block powered by the Underhood accessory box. I then tapped into the under steering wheel wiring Jane was for the low and high beam signal to the relay I do know I lost the high beam indicator on the interior though.

I’ll throw some pics up later when I get a chance.

Pics would be great. I've been beating my head against a wall all day. Thanks!

One thing to remember is that Mr. T switches the ground on the headlight circuits. So you will only have one hot on the plug with stock wiring ....

In essence, yes. You will have continuity on one ground for low beams and the other for high

So I guess I could run a couple of 5 pole relays wired to +24V to 85 & 30, and the ground for each beam setting to pin 86, then through to the corresponding hot wire on the led headlight coming off 87?

I was just looking at putting a buzzer in and ran across this thread. It doesn't trigger based on the door but there was another thread that detailed rewiring the speed warning buzzer for just that (sorry, didn't bookmark that one).
