so the fabrication of the drop gate is done but the mounting is being a bit of a PITA so that is on hold for a bit.
the good news is i have found a contact that is willing to make rear half doors for the 74 using my cut off steel doors as a template. now he will be cleaning up the top so it looks clean and this solves the tire mount concern and the licence plate concern. they will be a direct bolt on with no mods to the truck needed.
this will be made out of a durable long lasting proven method. not overly sure on the price yet but if we can get 10 sets on order then the cost should drop.
once these are done they will match the factory full doors for detail but will not have the upper section.
if anyone is interested please email me direct at

cheers

Wayne,

I am cutting my spare parts truck doors for my 74 series (same thing you are having done) so I am pretty set. but I would like to see the finished product and what you get for them, if nothing else to compare to my work :)

Thanks,

Michael

Pics would help em sell quicker:D
Sounds ok and anythings better than cutting up good doors, even in oz they can be hard to track down.
I went topless in a bleep once and got cooked like a lobster in 105F heat:mad:

sorry rosco,
there are no pics yet but they will look exactly like the original soft top 70 series rear doors with out the window frames or the reciever holes for the frames.
i am not sure if i want to do the inside the same for the door panels or with a access panel for storage inside.

I have not been paying attention. But what does a 74 with a OEM soft top have for rear doors?

Pimp: This is from the LC70 website (Brian894x4). Looks like a gasser, but same body style as the BJ74.

It looks like you either have to take the rear doors out or get the ones with the removable top halves. Also looks like there's a removable bar in the rear similar to the B pillar up front. Definitely doesn't look like a system that can easily go up and down. Cheers.

OK, thats how I kinda recalled it being.

I thought I have seen some BJ71's with solt tops and drop gate......but maybe I am imagining things

My BJ70 rag top has rear doors that the top half of the doors (glass) comes off. Maybe that is what you are thinking of.

I've seen that in my owner's manual, Mike...a very neat option that I wish I had. Do the hoops for your front door windows unscrew as well? My manual also shows that.
